About this Cook
I'm a newlywed southern gal with a passion for cooking and baking from scratch. I have a fun blog full of retro recipes and heirloom dishes that you can find at www.vintagevictuals.blogspot.com - I hope you will check it out!
My favorite things to cook
I'm a baker at heart, so I love nothing better than making a nice tall chocolate layer cake with chocolate icing! Maybe a scoop of homemade ice cream on the side? Yes please!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love family recipes!!! I truly believe that cooking brings families together. In terms of my favorites, there are just too many to list here, but you can check out my blog, which chronicles many of the heirloom recipes from my family - the url is above.
My cooking triumphs
I am most proud of making my Auntie Gladys's chocolate yule log - you can find the recipe on my blog, url above.
My cooking tragedies
My greatest cooking tragedy is that I don't have more recipes from my great grandmother - my mom's mom's mom - Nana. She was a legendary baker in our family, but she passed away just a few months after I was born.

Buttermilk Coffee Cake
My family love love LOVED this coffee cake. I made a few slight adjustments adding a variety of nuts and upping the overall amount of nuts, but stayed pretty true to the recipe. We are officially addicted. Thanks for the great recipe!

Coconut Macaroons III
This recipe was a little disappointing. The flavor was good, but the macaroons came out very crispy and too dry. I will stick with my old recipe - thanks!

Pretzel Turtles
I love this recipe. I used Dove chocolate caramels, and they fit perfectly on top of those square pretzels you can get. So easy and delicious. Everyone raved about them - they are addictive!
