Easy Bok Choy

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2013
Simple to cook, very tasty. As other reviewers advised, I cooked the stalks a bit before adding in the leaves. I also doubled the garlic, just because I really love the flavor of sauteed garlic. When I added the leaves, I also added several chopped green onions, because I had them on hand and needed to use them. Thanks for this recipe - I enjoyed and will regularly cook this again.

Dallas-Style Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
These flavors suited my personal palate very well. There is a nice balance of tang and sweetness. Next time I will add a bit more apple cider vinegar and a bit more hickory flavored bbq sauce - because I like the smoky bite of the mixture!

Creole Butter Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
YUM! Cooked dried beans until they thickened, instead of using canned beans and flour. Added jalapeno peppers because DH likes spicy. Delicious!! Will use this recipe again! UPDATE 4-3-2011: I make this dish every couple of weeks, as part of regular rotation of bean dishes. Today I added kidney beans to the butterbeans, to give another layer of texture, and added chipotle chili powder for extra kick. This dish rocks!

Slow Cooked Apple Brown Betty

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
Really good basic recipe. I followed the measurements exactly (although I followed a variation for the bread), and the buttery spice taste came out just like I like it. Not too strong, not overly buttery for my own tastes. I used whole wheat pita, added a couple of handfuls of oatmeal, and some walnuts. I don't think I'd have liked it as much without the oats and walnuts - they add some needed texture. I had no ice cream to eat with it, but that would have been really good. My hubby and I ate it warm right out of the crockpot and both enjoyed. It was a little dry, but if we'd eaten it with ice cream that probably wouldn't have been an issue. I'll make this again and probably use more apples next time - very easy, quite tasty and comforting. Thanks for sharing!

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Great bread, I'm made it several times using Heineken beer. I made four loaves as Christmas gifts, each accompanied by a small jar of honey, and got great reviews. Changes I made: *used only whole wheat flour. *reduced baking powder to 1 Tablespoon. *reduced salt to 1 teaspoon. *added melted butter to top of bread sometimes before, sometimes after cooking, and sometimes both! YUM!

Hot Italian Giardiniera

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
Heavenly. As a vegan treat for me, my sweet brother-in-law, Chaz the Chef, heated this for me in the microvave on a whole wheat bun, with a little of the juice soaked into the bun. No cheese, just hot vegetables on soft bread. mmmmm... Heaven on a bun...it's addictive.
