Garlic-Shrimp Angel Hair

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
This dish tastes like something you'd eat in a restaurant. I didn't have pesto, so I added some fresh basil instead. I also used only 1/2 of the amt. of heavy cream and then added milk, to cut down on some of the fat. Very tasty, and simple to make.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Very simple to make, and full of flavor. Very similar to regional rice dishes we have here (Caribbean coast of Colombia), with a little more zing. Definately will make this again.

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
This is a great cookie recipe. Slightly crispy, a little chewy, and tastes a lot like a good sugar cookie. I would have given it 5 stars if the recipe, as it's written, produced cookies that tasted lemony. I added an extra tsp. of lemon extract (based on other reviews), and I still think I could have added a 3rd, or maybe some rind, for a more pronounced lemon flavor. But the cookie texture etc is fabulous. I will def. make these again, but with more lemon extract or rind.

Spring Lime Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2007
Very tasty, light, and fluffy. The cookie itself tastes like a sugar cookie (but not quite as sweet) with maybe a hint of lime. The glaze is what gives it the extra zing that I liked. Almost too fluffy in that it crumbles easily. The basic recipe is good, but I would prefer the cookie crisper, and will try to modify it some next time to do so.

Herbed Batter Rolls

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
VERY easy to make, and a wonderful herby flavor. I knocked one star off only b/c the texture to me wasn't like a roll or biscuit. It was almost more like bread - very airy and fluffy. The lack of density is what I missed. But the taste is outstanding. My family loved them.

Naan

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
Excellent taste, texture. My family gobbled them up, incl. the kids who are usually very finicky. I did grill them and brushed them with garlic butter. To me that almost gave them a garlic bread taste which isn't what I wanted. Next time I will either add garlic in the dough, or not at all.

Indian Dahl with Spinach

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
The rating is with the changes made from suggestions here. I doubled the spices, used broth instead of water. I didn't carmelize the onions, however, which wasn't missed. I tasted the dahl before I added the coconut milk (very tasty!), and then added the coconut milk. The addition of the coconut milk made it a tiny bit richer, but certaintly not sweeter. I wonder if the previous reviewer who was so disappointed with the addition of the coconut milk used sweeted coconut milk? It turned out wonderfully. Btw, this makes 4 main course helpings, not 4 side dish helpings, as I quickly learned from having doubled the recipe!

Kulfi

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
VERY easy to make, and delicious. Everyone loved it. The only thing I would change next time is to mix the cardamom into the kulfi, rather than sprinkle it on top. I found the when I sprinkled it, some areas were a little more clumpy with cardamom, and that can be an overwhelming taste.

Indian Tandoori Chicken

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
This was absolutely delicious. The food coloring makes it look exactly like in the restaurants. The long marinade in yogurt kept the chicken very moist. I will definately make this again.
