About this Cook
I'm a wife, mother, and grandmother who loves to cook down-home Southern style. I've been married for 37 years and when I got married, I could only cook two things: meat loaf and chocolate cake from a mix. My husband even had to show me how to make tea. What a difference a few decades make! I am not crazy about everyday cooking; I tend to get in a rut, which is why I joined But special occasions bring out my creative side. My other hobbies are reading, writing, spending time with my grandkids, and spending at least one hour every day talking to my husband - just the two of us.
My favorite things to cook
On an average day, I like to cook quick and easy. I'm a great collector of fast, easy recipes. For special occasions, I am into dishes that look nice and taste great. My favorite is making really pretty desserts. I also like to make attractive and tasty appetizers. But what my family likes best are the old fashioned Sunday dinners (in the South, when we say dinner, we mean the mid-day meal) that I make every week for all my children and grandchildren.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Sunday dinners are everyone's favorite. I also have several special dishes I make every year on specific holidays.
My cooking triumphs
I prepared all the food for my son's rehearsal dinner. But my greatest cooking accomplishment was cooking enough meals to raise two kids - and they actually think I'm a pretty good cook.
My cooking tragedies
I never learned to make homemade biscuits that you roll out in your hand like my mother and grandmother did. And I can't fry a decent chicken.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
Superb! The only thing I changed was to substitute carrots for the celery due to personal preference. My husband says it's the best soup I've ever made, and he's not a soup lover.

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn
I had high hopes for this one, but it just didn't do anything special for my family. It takes like corn with cream cheese...that's pretty much it. I'd rather have the frozen creamed corn. Sorry!

Sweet Potato Casserole I
Another 5 star review! Didn't change a thing except I used baked fresh sweet potatoes. Just threw them in the oven the night before, let them cool overnight, then peeled them when I was ready to make the casserole. I make this often for my mom because it is one of her favorite dishes. Thanks for posting!
