Pesto Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2015
Didn't like walnuts to begin with, but they're more readily available and less expensive than pine nuts so I wanted to try it. That sharp taste from the walnuts still comes through and I don't like it. Will try again but with pine nuts. Update:: Ok, so it's been in my fridge for almost 3 hours and I just went to use it. That taste is gone and now tastes just like the pesto flavor I had hoped for. Switching from 3 stars to 5!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Followed directions exactly as written and they were dry! I added more milk but it just didn't taste 5 stars. IF you alter this recipe, I'm sure it will taste better.

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2014
Super yummy! I had spiral noodles on hand so I used them and used 16 oz. I used EVOO to sauté the veggies and subbed it for half the butter in the rue, as we'll. I added the butter and flour mixture in the mushroom mixture (less dishes and same result).

Great Easy Waffles

I did not have a fresh lemon so I did not use zest. I opted for 1 tsp of lemon juice instead. They were delicious!

Arrabbiata Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2011
I've had really good arrabiata sauce before and this isn't really it. This definitely does not need all the sugar the recipe calls for. I think I would omit the sugar and replace it with a finely diced carrot. Add in a few ounces of prosciutto as well!

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
I made these for our Christmas Eve dinner. They were completely gone! I really liked them myself. I would, however, decrease the sweetness by either decreasing the amount of molasses or brown sugar. It may taste better if I would just add more mustard and leave the molasses and sugar the same. I'll have to play with it. I took a few shortcuts - I used canned beans to cut out a few hours of work. I drained and rinsed the beans. I sauteed the onion and bacon and threw ALL ingredients into a crock-pot on low for a few hours. it really doesn't take long to cook these in the crock-pot since the ingredients are all cooked - just the flavors will have to marry.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
Yum - husband and I really liked. I was confused on how much to use for how much meat. I used a package of 19.5 oz of ground turkey but I think this seasoning is for 1 Ib of meat. I also followed another reviewers recommendation and added 2/3 cup water after browning and adding seasoning. I let sit simmering in a covered pan for 10 or so minutes. A reviewer said it was too salty. I am not a big fan of salt so I followed their recommendation and cut by half. Not sure if this was necessary as I added more salt after cooking. Ingredients are great as is. Will NEVER buy packaged again - I feel so much better knowing exactly what is in my food!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
I took a shortcut because I was too impatient to make the dough. Bridgeford Dough was on sale at my grocery store so I picked up a package (3 loaves included). I used the ingredients specified for all three loaves combined. I let the rolls defrost in the fridge - this made them triple in size. My husband forgot to add butter to the insides of our last batch. In a pinch I grabbed butter and placed 1/2T atop each roll. These actually made them taste so much better. This made a sauce accumulate at the bottom of the baking dish. Immediately after baking, I flipped the rolls upside down so that the sauce would flow down the sides so all sides are coated. I doubled the cream cheese sauce and added it to the buns right after they came out of the oven and flipped the buns. Awesome....going to make more tomorrow night. :)

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Not that this recipe needs another review but here it goes. These were awesome! I followed other reviewers comments - 1.) Do not over bake. Take out of the oven after 8 minutes. 2.) I unwrapped the candy ahead of time and put in the freezer for as long as possible. 3.) I refrigerated the dough prior to cooking to make it easier to scoop. I used a 2T scooper. These recommendations made it easy to bake these cookies when you only have 1 small cupcake pan. They cool much faster and come out wonderfully!

Baked Ziti II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2010
This was OK. We made this for dinner last night. I think it definitely needed more sauce and less ricotta cheese. Next time, follow some of the other reviewers and use 15 oz of Ricotta and maybe increase the mozzarella cheese for a more melted cheese effect. It also lacked some flavor. Make sure you either choose a very flavorful sauce or add some Italian seasonings to the sauce.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
WOW! I've grown up eating Pecan Pie made with Karo syrup - what a difference. It actually tastes homemade. The only change I made was to the temp. As recommended by others, start for 15 minutes at 350 and bring down to 300 for 55 minutes. The pie was the best looking Pecan Pie I had ever made. There was the slightest giggle but nothing that resting on the counter wouldn't fix. I've made several Pecan Pies and have to say this temperature is a sure way to have a great pie. Good luck and enjoy!

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2010
I wanted to test this out before bringing to a potluck at work. We made this to top our pork chops. I'm glad I decided this variation as opposed to the cranberry sauce this recipe was modified from (12 oz. cranberries, 1 cup OJ, 1 cup sugar). This is perfect, just the right amount tart and savory. I'll be adding this to my files. Yum! Make this :)

Not that anyone needs another review; this receipe already has 1,000 or so. Anyway, this receipe is awesome. I took a reviewers idea and added dijon mustard to the inside of the chicken roll...awesome! I also doubled the sauce (we're saucy people). Serve over mashed potatoes....yum!!
