Butter saved my marriage and apple pies....

Okay, so it didn't technically save my marriage, because it really wasn't in jeopary, but it added to my husband's happiness!  My husband's favorite dessert is hands down apple pie.  I had the apple part down to absolute deliciousness but the crust was another story.

My husband was used to my aunt's perfect crust and my crust was much to be desired, so I was on a mission to find the perfect crust.  My aunt uses butter Crisco, it never worked out for me.  Plus, my aunt doesn't measure anything, just mixes it.  How frustrating is that...I always thought baking was a science...I was wrong!

So, I was on the search for the perfect pie crust.  This is where butter plays it's part.  I tried to recreate my aunt's...failure. I tried several crusts from Allrecipes...failure.  Until I found Butter Flaky Pie Crust http://allrecipes.com/recipe/butter-flaky-pie-crust/detail.aspx< !  I would have never thought using all butter would produce the most perfect pie crust.  Well it sure did and my husband was happy as can be.

So long story short, butter was my saving factor in the search for making my husband's favorite dessert...apple pie!

LOL - your title caught my eye because butter almost ruined my marriage! Not really, but it was cause for a big fight way back in the early years of wedded bliss. My hubby wanted me to buy butter and I grew up eating blue bonnet margarine so I was standing firm on what we were going to use. Then one day while we were arguing about it, I decided I'd buy both and we could each have our own. I now buy strictly butter. LOL As for your pie crusts - I'm like your aunt - I use crisco and they come out great for me. I use a recipe where the liquid is a beaten egg and some vinegar along with the water. Glad you found a recipe that works for you!

About Me
I'm a stay-at-home mom of 3 year old Christopher Joseph, except for the couple nights a week I escape to work for me time :) I have a wonderful husband. I'm addicted to allrecipes and I love trying new things to cook and bake. My new obsession is mastering homemade bread, which I think I've come a long way. I'm also tackling a container garden this year, thanks to the inspiration from one of the lovely ladies on the RE. Other than that, I love to curl up with a great book (when I get the chance).
