Thanksgiving Stuffed Pumpkin

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
This does give an excellent presentation. The size pumpkin wasn't mentioned and the amount listed for ingredients was way too much for a medium sized pumpkin. I will use this again but cut the recipe in half, if using as a side. I agree with other reviewers in that if the pumpkin is going to be eaten, it must be cooked at least another 1/2 hour. I put foil on before putting it in the oven and placed it in a pie pan and added a little water to the pan. I also put the top back on the pumpkin before putting it in the oven. Nothing was mentioned in the original recipe as to what to do with the top. I also used cornbread stuffing mix.

Cream Corn Like No Other

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
I thought this was pretty good. I served it at Thanksgiving as a side. Mine came out a little runny, but my son didn't mind as he likes to put it over his mashed potatoes. I liked the idea another reviewer had to use leftovers for corn chowder, as I love chowder.

Barbeque Bratwursts

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
This was ok and better than regular bratwurst because I like the taste of barbeque sauce more than the taste of bratwurst but I didn't find it worth worth the effort. However, if you love bratwurst, I think it would be worth it. I don't eat it myself or serve it enough to warrant adding it to my collection as there are so many other recipes out there that I would prefer to eat and serve to guests.

Overnight Bubble Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
I'll have to agree with another reviewer that the Monkey Bread is the way to go. This was ok, but the Monkey Bread is way easier and to me tastier.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
I would have to agree with another reviewer. Despite the overwhelming great reviews on this, I thought it was a bit watery and just not all that great tasting.

Bratwurst Potato Skillet

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
Wow, with all the great reviews on this, I thought I'd love it and was very disappointed. I thought the soy was overwhelming. I won't make it again.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I thought the meat was a little bland but the sauce added to the taste. I will try it again for a family meal but add a little garlic and diced onion to the meat. Overall it was an easy dish to prepare, more of a homestyle meal than a company dish.

Garlic Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
This was fantastic! I use it often and wish I could have given it more than five stars! Based on other reviews, I increased the ingredients as follows: 4T butter, 12 T white wine, 82 grated Asiago Cheese (much better flavor than Parmesan) and 12 minced garlic cloves. Everything else remained the same. This is a keeper.

African-Style Oxtail Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
I thought this was very good hearty meal. The modifications I made were:I did not use celery, used 6 cups of water, and added 1/4 cup of barley. I will use this recipe again, especially good on a cold winter day.

Egg Salad English Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
This was excellent. It can also be spread on bread (I used a heavier Spelt bread). I love easy breakfast foods and this one fit the bill. It is good for an item on a brunch buffet too.

No Sugar Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
This was an excellent pie. I served it as dessert at a card game for some elderly women, many of which are diabetic. They loved it. I followed the advice of other reviewers and used 5 Granny apples and a nut top crust, the rest of the ingredients were the same as listed. Everyone loved it. I served it with sugarfree vanilla ice-cream. This is a keeper.

Sunshine Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
This was just ok for me. It is cute for kids and I liked the idea of the ketchup face to spice it up and make someone smile (if they like ketchup~no one in my house eats ketchup with their eggs. I flipped the toast after I cracked the egg in the hole, as it just was cooking through and that worked out to cook it a little more. I don't know that I'd use it again.

Chocolate Pudding Cake IV

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
I thought this was a good and easy recipe to have on hand when you need something in a pinch to take to a potluck. I baked it in a crockpot using the exact ingredients listed and baked it on low for 5.5 hours and it was perfect. I served it with ice-cream~~delicious.

I substituted the dry potato flakes for cornflake crumbs and substituted an egg wash for the water and liked it much better.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2008
I thought this was pretty good for a non-mayo potato salad. I followed the recipe exactly and will use it as my non-mayo potato salad for now.

Twice Fried Fish

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I gave this a 4 star rating only because I would not serve this to guests but liked it myself. I got mixed reviews from two other family members, one liked it and one didn't. The sauce is a bit on the strong side. The changes I made were 1T of ketchup instead of tomato sauce as I didn't want to open up a can for 1T and I used 1/2 tsp salt. I served it with fried rice.

Red Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2008
These are the best. I did NOT add the sugar and used Mrs. Dash seasoning instead of steak seasoning and garlic salt instead of powder (1/2 tsp each. Everything else was the same--delicious.

Caramel Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2008
I thought this was very good. I kept the recipe as is and used an 8x8 pan and cooked it the second time for 15 minutes; however I'd try a little longer the next time, maybe 17 or use a 9x13 pan. It was very tasty. I greased the pan and didn't have any trouble getting the bars out of the dish.

Awesome Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2008
Oh so simple, yet oh so good. Like another reviewer said, "It's nice to not have to stand over the stove" to cook multiple sandwiches. Wish I thought of it years ago.

Barbarella's German Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2008
This was very good and reminded me of my mother standing over the stove cooking me crepes when I was a child. I loved them and she couldn't cook them fast enough! I used the orange sauce for crepes, which I obtained from this site to pour over them. Delicious.
