Good as is, my family liked it on Christmas morning, but definitely needs to be kicked up a notch. I added sun dried tomatoes and garlic sauteed bell peppers. Next time I will add even more veggies, like mushrooms or zucchini. Some herbs or spices would be good too, paprika and thyme, maybe. The cream of potato soup and the hash browns are a great base. I doubled the amount of ham (I used canadian bacon because I like the texture) and added more cheddar, omitting the more expensive parmesan. Although the recipe doesn't indicate, the dish can be made the night before and brought to room temperature before baking.
