About this Cook
I'm a mom cooking for a family of 6. Cooking is my creative outlet.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook sweets. Cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, etc. I bake all our bread - delicious 100% whole grain bread from wheat I grind myself. I'm trying to cook more healthy meals, but keep getting sucked in by the all the recipes for delicious junk food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make yummy rolls for all holidays. I also make several delicious soups, and keep extras in the freezer for lunches. I like to make freezer meals or at least meal starters to make it easier to get dinner on the table. I love trying new recipes (as long as I have the time.)
My cooking triumphs
I like trying "clones" of restaurant meals and love it when I can make something that's restaurant-worthy. I also love substituting healthier ingredients in things.
My cooking tragedies
There have been many over the years, but that's how you learn! You never make the same mistake twice.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms
Pretty good. I used 1 lb of baby bellas and only used half the filling. (Even so, I thought there was WAY too much filling in the mushrooms.) If I made them again, I would only make half or a third the amount of filling, and definitely wouldn't fill them very full. I normally love garlic, but 1 Tbsp was too much - they were very garlicky. I would recommend only using 1-2 cloves. I will probably try another recipe next time.

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup
This is delicious. I add a carrot or two, shredded, and use milk instead of cream. I don't add cilantro, but do sometimes add fresh chives. I have even replaced half the potato with cauliflower to make it lower carb/lower calorie. If you puree the (cooked) cauliflower and leave the potato chunks, no one will know it's not all potato. Leftovers freeze well.

Zucchini Brownies
Yummy, fudgy brownies. You can't tell there's zucchini in there. (Grate it finely.) I replaced most of the oil with applesauce, and replaced a little bit of white flour with whole wheat. (Will do more next time.) We will make these a lot.
