About this Cook
I'm 30 and grew up helping Mom in the kitchen. I consider myself a beginner/intermediate cook because I don't do it every day, and I tend to cook the same dishes over and over...but I can follow a recipe. I like to experiment with recipes and am learning how to tweak things to better suit my family needs. Each day I learn and grow!
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking cakes and pies... I think it helps that I am a dessert-a-holic/ choco-holic!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year at Thanksgiving, my mom, sister and I prepare a variety of pies...each one of us makes a different filling (I get the pecan, my sister does the pumpkin, and Mom makes the apple). Mom, ever the crust expert, crafts the perfect shell to contain our yummies! (I am learning to work crust and have gotten close, but not perfect yet!)
My cooking triumphs
This past year I made THE perfect pecan pie filling! Best EVER!
My cooking tragedies
Meatloaf is one item I cook reliably with out a recipe...unfortunately, in the recent past I made one that even I had trouble finishing (I think I threw some of it out)!

Mom's Pineapple-Zucchini Bread
Excellent. I followed the recipe very closely. I only made 2 substitutions - instead of 3/4 c vegetable oil, I used 1 stick of 'i can't believe it's not butter' and 1/2 stick of real butter; and instead of walnuts I used pecans. I had to "crush" my own pineapple, b/c I only had cans of tidbits, but the result was a similar output. I still measured everything out to the correct proportions. Made two very nice sized loaves. Great sweet flavor, but not too sweet. Feels heavy and dense, but bread is relatively light and fluffy for something of it's kind. Brought 1 loaf to work at 8am, and by 11 it was nearly gone! No complaints or changes! (I'm going to have to make more of this to use up my zucchini!

Oatmeal Whole Wheat Quick Bread
I don't know if the weather affects this type of bread or not, but my "loaf" or rather blob on a cookie sheet was more of a brick. I ground the oatmeal in a chopper/procesor nearly into a powder. I would love some better instructions to lighten up the loaf! I will say that the flavor is EXCELLENT!
