Miso Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
Followed the recipe to a T. Real easy to make. However my husband thought it was "too rich" and "fishy". I have to agree with him. Maybe too much dashi. Plus our house smelled like dashi broth for a while. Miso soup in our favorite sushi restaurant is so light and delicious. I think we'll stick to that. Some things are meant to be eaten outside of your home...

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
Good base recipe. Rated 4 stars because it needs a few adjustments to become great. Used chuck roast. Coated it with flour and browned it on all sides before putting it in the crock pot. Used beef stock instead of water. Added some red wine. For the last 3 hours of cooking added mushrooms, baby carrots and halved baby red potatoes. I will probbaly omit baby red potatoes next time, they tasted good, but this recipe makes so much absolutely delicious gravy that only mashed potatoes can match. Let the pot sit in the fridge overnight and then removed the layer of fat on top. Husband LOVED it! Requesting it again (and we just finished the pot yesterday!)

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
Wonderful recipe as-is (I only left the onions out and used onion powder in the cheese sauce instead). Our guests could not get enough of it! I followed the recommendation of one of the reviewers though and made more sauce (1.5 portion) and sort of regret it: potatoes were swimming in it. So next time I will do as the original recipe says.

Roasted Beets with Feta

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2011
On our recent trip to NYC we tried beets and feta salad off of a "Schintzel and Things" food truck. It was soooo good that I started looking for a similar recipe. This one tastes even better!

Cioppino

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2011
Absolutely wonderful! I tried a few times with butter and once with olive oil. Unlike the majority of reviewers I like butter-base much better. It was kinda watery otherwise. So: I'll stick to the original recipe. Definitely use fish stock instead of water (I use clam juice) or simply add more wine or chicken broth. One of our favorite dishes in the house (when we feel like splurging a little :))

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2010
Very good side-dish option. Cut brussek sprouts in half. Trim the ends as much as possible. Add a touch of garlic. They come out caramelized and so tasty! I add bacon bits to them in the end. On my Christmas menu it goes!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2010
Oh my, what a meal... Cut down on spiciness, other than that - made as written. Hubby offered to enter in the next chili cook-off. It was that good. We thought 2 ingredients make this recipe: bacon and Italian sausage. Outstanding.

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2010
Absolutely wonderful recipe! Couple modifications (just a matter of taste and ingredient availability): took it easy on hot stuff - added only a little bit of cayenne. Also didnt add any crawfish. Other than that - followed the recipe to a T, made a double batch and had great dinners for a few days. Thank you for the recipe! Keeper.

Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
Rarely give so-so reviews, but this time it is not more then 3 stars. The only thing I changed - was emitting the canned onions. The rest - followed the recipe to a T. The house smelled absolutely wonderful all the time during cooking. My husband and I were anticipating a great dinner. Turned out - not really.Canned mushrooms tasted pretty bad - sour (definitely use fresh ones if you this recipe). The meat was on the dry side. Very dissapointed...

Baked Haddock

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
Ok, its been a while since I posted a comment here, even though I keep using the recipes over and over again. But this time I HAVE TO. This was absolutely great! Few modifications though: added some paprika to milk and salt, let haddock sit in it for about an hour. Added italian seasoning to the breadcrums mix. Put fish on the wire rack in the oven (I honestly think it is a must - no soggy bottom at all!) As a result - completely satisfied and happy hubby (that makes faces every time I propose fish for dinner!)He said "Parmesan makes it". Light crisp on the outside, flavorfull, flaky on the inside! I would cut down on crumbs and parmesan amount next time though - got a lot left over. Thank you very much for the recipe! Will make again for us, will make for guests!

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2009
I used fresh mushrooms and yellow onion. Other than that - followed to a T. Gave it 4 stars: my husband loved it, but I found it extremely bland. Smells great, just like my mom used to make, but there is something missing in the taste... Cant put my finger on it.

Absolutely wonderful! My husband said they should be called "preeties" :) they looked so cute! I made two changes though - added mushrooms to the ground beef and cut off on BBQ sauce. Other than that - same day fresh or next day reheated they were absolutely delicious! Thanks a lot for the recipe!

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2007
Unbelievable! We sat down to dinner. My husband tried one spoonfull of the soup, took the phone and called his parents to say : "We are having the best tomato soup, its the one you can find in top-level restaurants only!" Used the tomatoes from my garden, the leftovers from the chicken broth I made a couple of days before that. Didnt have any cloves OR garlic, so put a little bit of garlic powder and I am sure it could be even better with the real garlic. Used a blender, since we dont have a food mill. Dont think a food mill would do that great of a job though. Blender makes it very fine. Thank you for the recipe!!
