The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
This is the recipie I follow every year for Christmas cookies, it has never failed me. 7 minutes is exactly the right cook time, and the cookies are soft and moist and not too sweet. For icing I just mix together some icing sugar and milk until its nice and thick and spread it on, it dries hard and glossy and perfect for these cookies.

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
Crispy and chewy, wonderful cookies! Replaced the lemon extract (didn't have any) with a tblsp of lemon juice and a tsp of lemon zest. I didn't roll them in sugar, but I did flatten them out a bit with my fingers before baking, they spread about 1 inch on each side.

Yogurt Cake

Reviewed: May 25, 2012
So versatile and delicious! I've been swapping out the flavours and adding frozen berries. So far I've done peach yogurt with raspberries and blueberry yogurt with blueberries. My go-to coffe/pound cake from now on! About 1/2 to 3/4 cup of berries is good, thawed they won't add to the cooking time.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
Some people are commenting that "who needs instruction on how to grill cheese?" but fail to note that this is a classic north american recipe. My Polish parents have never had grilled cheese, and the first time I ever had it, a roomie made it for me in university. And then I was hooked. I wish I had discovered this page before then, I missed out on years of deliciousness!

Curried Butternut Squash and Pear Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2011
Delicious and a very interesting blend of flavours, loved it! So easy to make--I couldn't be bothered to get a pan dirty to bake the squash first so I just peeled it, and then sauted the squash with the onions to give it a nice caramelized flavour.

Simply White Bread II

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
Fantastic simple white bread! I use the intructions from another loaf for the order of ingredients (water, then sugar, then yeast in the water to foam up, then flour). Makes for a fluffier loaf I think.

Peachy Moist Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
No idea what people are complaining about with the batter being too dry, or too moist. I followed the recipe exactly, except that I had no baking powder so I used 1/2 tsp baking soda instead and hoped that the acidity of the peaches and the yogurt would make up for it. I may have also used more peaches (I don't know, I didn't measure) and mushed them around a bit, but my peaches were not going to last any longer. They have perfect little peaks and smell heavenly, like peaches and cream.

I used vanilla yogurt (all I had), used less sugar, and overloaded on the bananas, and these are yummy!

Crabmeat and Corn Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
Great recipe! I'm lactose intolerant so instead of using cream and milk, I subbed in chicken broth and a large potato to get that "creamy" sort of texture. The soup was delicious and rich even without real cream, so its a winner for me. I can only imagine what it would taste like with real cream!

Surprise Banana Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Very cakey, different texture than a traditional loaf! Exactly what I was looking for. Could use a bit more zing... not sure, maybe more bananas? More vanilla?

Jenny's Black Forest Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2010
Delicious and moist! I made the cake into little 2-layer cupcakes, painstaking but soooo worth it! They were too cute! (see photos for this recipe--they turned out a bit messy but next time they'll be picture-perfect)

Skillet Apple Brownie

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
Great and moist, I used margarine (cheaper) and baked it in a teflon pie pan. Little too much spice for me, I'm not used to cloves, but I can see how that would be awesome for someone else. I will decrease the cloves and nutmeg slightly next time.

Apple, Carrot, Or Zucchini Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2010
Did a half apple, half carrot, it was moist and delicious. Added a bit of vanilla soy milk just because, and baked it in a parchment paper lined loaf pan. No mess, no cleanup, so easy.

Quick Gnocchi

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
I added flour very carefully and sparingly, ending up with a very sticky and hard to work with dough (on purpose) the results was messy but incredibly tender and soft gnocchi, much better than I have ever bought! Perhaps next time I will add enough flour to make the dough less annoying, but the tenderness was worth it.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
Delicious the first time, and reheats well, makes for great leftovers (if there are any). Instead of basting every 15 minutes, I covered it in foil for 30 mins, flipped the chicken, recovered for another 20 mins, and then broiled for 15 minutes on each side for extra crispiness.

Upside Down Pizza

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2007
To make the sauce taste more "pizza"ish, I added a lot of oregano, it really helped! A layer of pepperoni slices underneath the cheese layers also made it taste much more like pizza. I suggest adding a lot of pepperoni, makes it delicious! Loved it.
