About Me
I have delusions of culinary grandeur. I wanna be some sort of epic mix of Martha Stewart and Paula Deen and Betty White. I'm an ex-Southerner living in the Big City now - and as I lived in a small town in SC, Columbus is *huge*. I love my skyline. I'm pretty much a SAHM, because my mom is disabled and my (step)daughter is homeschooled. I plan on teaching her how to cook, if I can pry her away from the computer. I have a huge love for geeky things: the paranormal, video games, NETFLIX, the internet, role-playing, reading, writing. The holidays are coming up soon so I'm totally getting excited for that! :D
My favorite things to cook
There's something amazing about the union of butter and sugar. I love getting in the kitchen on a good day, and just spend the day making delicious things. And I admit: casseroles are glorious. I love pasta.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mmm. Cooking traditions. It makes me a sad panda that I didn't get all my grandmother's recipes written down, because she's gone now and I won't have that anymore. But we're starting new traditions with my family. I really love getting packages of Budding lunch meat and putting cream cheese between slices, rolling them up, and snacking all day on Christmas Eve. In years past we'd do full on dinners on Thanksgiving and Christmas: Turkey, Sweet Potatoes (no marshmallows!), turkey rice, beet eggs, cornbread stuffing, chocolate and lemon pies. A few years ago I started doing our family turkeys, and I'm happy to say I'm the one who does them now. :D
My cooking triumphs
I just mentioned my Holiday Turkey, which is really good. The recipe was a birthday gift from a friend of mine in 2007, and I've made it every year since. I also consider being able to cook anything I want these days as a 'triumph'. Before I moved in with my husband, I was only allowed to cook certain things. Now I have free reign! It's excellent.
My cooking tragedies
I tried a peanut butter cookie from Epicurious once. I was expecting soft and chewy and delicious, not crumbly like shortbread :\
