Aunt Anne's Sesame Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
Great flavor, but I think it's essential to toast the sesame seeds (on a cookie sheet for 10 min at 350 degrees) before rolling dough. I ground 2 tbsp anise seed in place of the extract, and next time I will use at least 2.5 or 3 tbsp.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
I've been making a similar recipe for years, and it is always a huge hit! This stuffing is a really great way to use up extra stale bread. I usually add chopped carrots as well, and sometimes chopped dates, raisins, and apricots instead of cranberries (whatever i have on hand); soaking the chopped dried fruit in boiling water for a few minutes really plumps them up. I use fresh herbs whenever possible, and to really bring out their flavour, simmer the herbs with the stock/butter mix before adding to the rest.

Glo's Sausage Fried Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
Cheap to make, simple to put together, couldn't ask for more really. Next time I might try to up the flavor with a little chili or ginger.

Delicious Whole Wheat Fruitcake Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
Finally a low fat cookie that actually tastes good! I made about 30 medium sized cookies, and added some wheat germ when I ran out of whole wheat flour. I also reduced the sugar to 2/3 cup and the sweetness was perfect. Just make sure to watch carefully as they cook, because even if they don't look done on top, they may be burning on the bottom!

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: May 25, 2008
not bad, but kind of bland as written. i added a bit of slivered almonds, mashed banana and PB as others had suggested, but the flavor didn't really come through. Next time I may amp up the add-ins and possibly toast the wheat germ/oats/almonds as I tried in another recipe for that something extra.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2008
Added splash of milk, diced red peppers, and topped with sliced tomatoes, YUM. It didn't taste too "quichey", and when baked in a 9x9 square pan only took 20 minutes. Will definitely be making again!

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
Yum excellent! I did not change a thing, except reduce salt to 1 tsp and add 2 tbsp of melted butter during the last 20 min of cooking. Used a Speights Ale (I'm in NZ), not a very flash beer and the flavour was perfect, not too "beery" or bitter in the slightest.

African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
Excellent savory peanut soup. I ended up adding a tbsp or so of carraway seeds (which i mistakenly thought was brown rice), which made for an interesting yet tasty flavor.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
Huge hit with flatmates and coworkers! I used all margarine instead of the butter/shortening (you cannot tell the difference) and increased the spices. Delicious and made heaps!

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2008
The cooking time is WAY off. I may try this again either using multiple smaller pans or a larger shallow pan because this took a whole lot longer than I expected, over 1.5 hours. Okay flavor, but this needs some adjustments as well..

Chocolate Pudding Cake III

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2008
Yum! I have been looking for ages for the low fat version of my dad's favorite Denver Pudding, and this is it. As other reviewers suggested, I reduced the sugar to 1/2 brown and white, cut the oil by half, and upped the vanilla and cocoa slightly. Came out great, just make sure use a deepish baking dish because I ended up with chocolate sauce splattered all over the oven.

Chocolate Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
awesome! i followed other reviewers' advice and added a bit more cocoa, a hearty sprinkle of cinnamon, and grated nutmeg. I used 5 ripe bananas and substituted chocolate chips for nuts.

Impossible Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
Don't know if I did anything wrong, but I did not get anything even remotely resembling crust or cake, more custardy. It also went off really quickly (after 3 days) in the fridge compared to other pumpkin pie recipes.
