There is a reason that this recipe has been around for so long. They are wonderful and it wouldn't be Christmas without them. They are the first cookie that I learned to make. I sometimes make my own butter toffee ( 2 sticks Land O Lake butter, 1 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon water. bring to 300 degrees and pour out into a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and let cool) I crunch it up and add. The will spread a lot but I can never make enough and they have always been the first cookies to go at a cookie exchange.
