Hi there! My name is Emily, I'm 20 and I'm a student at UC Santa Cruz. Right now, I'm majoring in art & psychology - and while going to school and doing all that biz is fine and dandy, I just love to cook! Being vegetarian, I suppose I specialize in making-over everyday yummy foods healthier, veg friendly, and even more scrumptious. I wish I knew more people so I had an excuse to cook food for my friends more often!
My favorite things to cook
I'm all about homemade bread, old school, withOUT the bread machine, pastries & desserts from scratch, and of course a plethora of vegetables of any shape, size, or form. I also like making my own fruit jams & marinara sauces, spreads, and stuff like homemade ravioli and granola.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gotta love my mom's classic brandied yams at Thanksgiving & Christmas, her canned applesauce, peaches, and pears, and her sugar cookies.
My cooking triumphs
When I FINALLY got a loaf of bread to actually rise and cook it without burning it. Also, when I made vegan eggplant parmesan and no one even realized it was vegan! *Score!*
My cooking tragedies
Trying to melt chocolate... with a makeshift double-boiler. Failure. Don't mix milk with milk chocolate (counter-intuitive to a beginner, I know.) Still tasted good though.
