German Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This was just okay for me and the family. It was so greasy and fatty that I would have a hard time justifying the work and calories of making it again. Anything this fatty should be over-the-top-good and this wasn't.

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
I followed the recipe, exactly. Browned the veggies and meat and actually measured everything for the first go. Overall the recipe is very good. I rated it 4 stars because I thought the brown sugar was too much and made the sauce a bit sweeter than I prefer. We ate the beef and veggies, but discarded most of the sauce.

Cinnamon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
This is the best ice cream base I've found. It's wonderfully creamy without having that fatty mouth feel like so many other homemade ice creams. I've made it with cinnamon (delicious), instant coffee (yum), vanilla, and amaretto. All have been excellent!

Caramel Frosting IV

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
Yum! I followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfectly. I had two layer cakes and used half the warm frosting for one cake then set the remaining frosting aside. By the time I was ready to use it the next day, it had cooled and it was impossible to work with. Fortunately, I didn't need a pretty cake so I just smooshed the frosting on the cake and we ate and enjoyed it like that. For future reference I know to use all the frosting at once, though!

Pumpkin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
I read through several reviews and cut the water to 1/4 cup instead of 1/3 cup since so many people struggled with getting the bread cooked all the way through. Othere than that, I followed the recipe exactly and it came out beautifully! The pumpkin bread is moist and flavorful and the cream cheese swirl is delicious. Great recipe, but it might ruin me for pumpkin bread without the swirl!

Four Egg Yellow Cake

I think you should rename the cake Cornbread Cake. First bite, tastes like cornbread. Second bite, no tastes like cake. Third bite, yup, it's cornbread. The first cake I've ever made and it tastes like cornbread.

Apple Butter Bars

I made a ton of apple butter and needed a way to use some of it. This is a very simple and tasty dessert. It's not too sweet and is perfect for fall and winter.

These are a salty treat! They are very easy to make and people tend love them or hate them, but I always get a ton of attention when I bring these to a gathering!

Oatmeal Carmelitas

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
These are fantastic! Every single time I've made them they are a huge hit. I've tried cutting the butter, and I end up having them being too crumbly, but still delicious carmelitas. I've finally accepted that I have to use all the butter if I want to make a good presentation with them. I don't happen to like walnuts so I subsitute pecans. I've also used peanut butter, but they are much better with caramel.

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
This is a fairly simple recipe and tastes so good. I've made it several times and made flavor adjustments each time. I've added almond extract, orange zest, a layer of lemon curd, ginger and chocolate chips. It's a crowd pleaser every time I've made it. A little trick I've learned for getting the butter done quickly is to use a cheese grater on softened butter then freeze the butter overnight. It makes them come together very quickly in the morning.

Chicken Tetrazzini IV

This was a crowd pleaser for my family, but a bit bland and so full of fat that I don't think I'll make it again.

Kielbasa Cabbage Skillet

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
I substitued brussel sprouts for cabbage. I don't especially like brussel sprouts, but purchased them for a change of pace and this recipe really hit the spot! I followed the suggestion of another reviewer and added blanched potatoes with my onion which was fantastic. The only other change is that I was operating from memory and threw in a hefty dash of Worchestire by mistake. It was a good mistake and I'll do it again the next time I make this!

Italian Cream Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
I made this on a Saturday afternoon, just because I enjoy baking. I took some to my mother who shared it with the ladies she works with. One of her co-workers is paying me to make another cake since the taste she had was not enough! It is a wonderfully, well textured cake and shows beautifully.

It was very quick and easy, but came out overly sweet and a bit icy. This wasn't worth the calories, in my opinion.

Very simple and easy to make. It's a lovely breakfast for the weekend. Bringing the eggs and milk up to room temperature helps a lot for making the recipe work correctly.

Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
I made this twice. The first time I made it exactly as written and it was extremely tart. I HAD to have ice cream with it for it to be even remotely edible for me. The second time I made it all the same except using 3 parts strawberries and 1 part rhubarb and it was much better. I took it to a BBQ and it was a huge hit!
