About this Cook
I'm a stay at home wife of my wonderful husband Michael and Mommy of two incredibly adorable little boys. I love cooking yummy things for my family and I love to try new recipes. I think meals are so important and we try to eat together as a family everyday. I just love how good food can enrich our lives and make even ordinary days special.
My favorite things to cook
Even though I love to cook pretty much anything and everything, my favorite part is dessert. It is my favorate part of a meal and I think most people feel the same way. I really love to make pies. I think my favorite thing to make is birthday cakes. I think an original specialized birthday cake does so much to make a birthday a special occasion- especially for kids.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is a wonderful cook. Some of my youngest memories are of me helping her in the kitchen. I've been pretty much cooking complete meals since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I'm trying to pass the love for cooking on to my kids. I have my oldest (a 3 year old boy) help me as often as possible and he just loves it. We have a great time together. I'm looking forward to my 1 year old getting big enough to help as well. I really hope that my boys will know their way around the kitchen much better than the average male.
My cooking triumphs
This year for my husband's birthday, I decided to try something different. He lived in France for two years and absolutely loves french pastries. One of his favorites is Napoleons. So I decided to make a big Napoleon "cake". I found some really authentic recipes (although I'll admit I did use frozen puff pastry) and it turned out amazing. Better than I could've hoped for. It was better than any other Napoleon we had ever found in the states. The one problem: now he asks me just about every day when I'm going to make another one! I guess it made up for his first birthday of our marriage (see "My Cooking Tragedies").
My cooking tragedies
The first year we wre married, I made my husband a chocolate birthday cake from scratch and it was horrible. He took one bite and would not eat anymore of it- not that I could blame him. I didn't take more than a bite either. I'm still not sure what went wrong. It was my mom's recipe and I had used it before with good results. Maybe I left something out when I copied the recipe down or something.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust
I couldn't believe how good this was, considering how quickly it went together. I added some garlic powder and some basil to the dough. I spread it with jarred pasta sauce and topped it with slices of ham, pineapple tidbits and mozzarella cheese. Didn't take much longer to cook than a frozen pizza, but tasted sooo much better!

Chocolate Mice
These mice turned out so cute! I took them to a Halloween party at church and got so many compliments. They were yummy too. I modified the recipe a little. I used cream cheese instead of sour cream. I made one batch with semisweet chocolate chips and covered them in crushed oreos. Then I made another batch with white chocolate chips and covered them with powdered sugar. I used rolled caramels for the tails, as others had suggested. I used candy sprinkles for the eyes and little dots of pink frosting for noses. They weren't hard to make, but then did get my hands very messy. I will definately make them again!
