Fig and Arugula Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2014
We really enjoyed this salad. It was very simple and easy to make. The combination of sweet from the honey and figs worked wonderfully with the bitterness from the arugula and the balsamic. I had never thought to use fresh figs in a salad before seeing this recipe. I am glad I tried it. I will definitely serve this recipe again!

Strawberry/Rhubarb Crumb Pie

Reviewed: May 21, 2012
Excellent pie. I made this in a deep dish pie plate and it could have used a little more fruit. I will use more Rhubard and Strawberries next time. Thanks for submitting.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
Not cakey not fudgy, but something in-between, and not to my family's liking. I'm going to try something else next time. These lacked the intense chocolate flavor I was seeking, and wasn't soft and gooey, which is the texture I prefer. We ate it with ice cream, to give it more moisture. (no, I did NOT overbake!)

Lisa's Co-op Kale Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2011
Too spicy, and we usually like heat. The broth lacks flavor, like it needed more herbs and spices. I enjoyed using up my Kale, but I won't be making this again. No one was wow'd by it at all. (FYI--I did not make any changes to this recipe; everything was cooked as directed.)

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
It's delicious. And quick to put together. I can not think of any improvement. Make this recipe as written, you will not be disappointed. I needed a small amount, decided to only make a single layer, so I cut this in half. I spread a thin vanilla frosting on the cake while it was still warm. It was eaten before the next morning. Thanks for submitting.

Spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie)

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
This is awesome. We ate the whole thing in 15 minutes. I will probably need to double this next time. I used a 9 oz bag of pre-washed spinach, chopped, and it turned out great. This would be great with a greek salad with olives.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2010
Perfect results with this one. I can't think of any way to improve it. I baked these in small loaf pans and they disappeared almost immediately.

Mom's Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
I used all butter. Turned out wonderful! This recipe is just like the frosting my mother always made, so I was familiar with the technique of slowly mixing milk into the flour over low heat. Also, you need to cream the butter for a long time before adding the sugar. And add only small amounts of sugar slowly to incorporate into the butter to not get that grainy texture. I'll use this for cakes from now on.

Roasted Winter Root Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
I scaled this back to 6 servings. The only thing I did not like was the basil flavor with these veggies. I will try this again, but maybe use some different spices to replace the basil.

Savory Slow Cooker Squash and Apple Dish

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
Just okay. Not the "wow" dish for Thanksgiving I was hoping for. Very easy to prepare. And I loved that it used the slow cooker. That part was convenient.

Easy to make, looked beautiful and was very tasty. It was the perfect pie to bring along to a picnic this summer. Everyone loved it. Thanks

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2010
First time making Bruschetta. The whole family loved it. I made only a half recipe, but ended up using a whole baguette (10 oz. LaBrea). Next time I will probably try to use sliced mozzarella instead of shredded. Can't wait to make this again and again.

Buttermilk Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
Love this recipe. I did reduce the oil to 2 Tablespoons and used about 1/4 cup of water to thin the batter slightly. These disappeared fast. I'll probably be adding buttermilk to my grocery list more regularly!

Country House Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
I made this recipe exact with no substitutions or changes. I did not yield the same quantity. I used one 9x13 pan with the fudge about 1 inch in height. Very tasty but it did crumble a bit when I cut them. I will probably not make these again and try a different recipe next year for the holidays.

Nauvoo Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
I like a spicier gingerbread. I did use canola instead of the lard. They didn't stay too soft either. I might make again or look for something else.

Di's Delicious Deluxe Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
These turned out very well. I cheated a little when I made mine. Trader Joes sells hard boiled eggs in their dairy section, so I used them instead of hard-boiling eggs myself. I was out of the hot pepper sauce, so I'll probably add some the next time to see the difference. Our guests ate these up very quickly and I'm told they were indeed delicious. Thanks Di.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
I made these exactly as written with no substitutions. They were quite good, but just not quite what I was looking for (I like a slightly more cakey brownie). They were a little too overdone on the sides but fudgy more towards the center, eventhough I baked them for less than the recipe called for (30 minutes). Very intense chocolate flavor and very sweet.

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
Very nice and simple recipe. I made this recipe after losing a cranberry relish recipe that I found elsewhere (it contained golden raisins with the cranberries). I used 3/4 cup of sugar instead of the full cup and still tasted sweet enough. I'll still search for my original relish recipe, but will make this one until I find it!

Dill Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
I've now made this twice and both times I've received lots of compliments. I'll never buy another carton at the store, that's for sure. I did follow some other posters advice to cut back slightly on the mayo (by about a 1/4 cup) and that seemed to work well. The first time I made it with the onions and the second time without. I liked it both ways. This dip definitately tastes better if it's refridgerated for 8+ hours. Thanks for sharing this lovely dip recipe!
