Easy Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Good recipe My DH is allergic to many fresh fruits so I use cooked fruits for him. Made this with Apples and craisins. Reduced the sugar as I always do and used apple sauce and Canola oil as suggested on this site for many baked goods. Akso good with Apples, Pears and Raisins with a little cinnamon.

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
A real winner, served it for a ladies Lunch. What a hit. I was using my very old original Pyrex dishes. They are patterened and not dishwasher safe so I was reluctant to broil them Instead I broiled the toated French bread -cheese on top then put them in the soup . Rave reviews. Thank you

Roasted Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
I have never eaten Saurkraut, I am English. I made this for German friends I loved it they raved about it. I did strain the sauerkraut I had purchased in a glass jar. That was the only change I made. Thanks Wunnie, we had a great German meal.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
Great recipe works every time. I use white whole wheat flour and canola oil instead of butter. I have used honey or sugar and it works equally well, sugar I reduced to 1/4 cup, still absolutely fabulous.

Pear Cranberry Crumble

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
I omitted the apple juice and used lemon juice sprinkled on pears to keep their color. Omitted the essence too. I cooked it in the microwave. A trick I learned after using microwave apple crisp on this site. My DH cannot eat Fresh fruit because he reacts to something in the skin, Probably chemicals so I cook fruit daily for him. This is a keeper for us Thanks.

I scaled this to 8 servings. Left out the margarine and the milk. Added half a cup of cottage cheese and left in all the vegatables.Pureed in the blender and it was excellent flavour. We love thicker soups, add a little extra stock if you find it too thick-enjoy.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
When I make these and almost every other recipe for baked goods I replace butter and margarine with canola oil to cut down on saturated fats and hydrogenated fats. I use canola in all my muffin recipes with great success I never use artificial sweeteners just cut back on sugars till I get it right. Diabetes can be difficult to manage in these days of convenience foods. I love Allrecipes nutritional information. When printing recipes go to advanced print options and check nutritional information for every recipe, this feature is fantastic.

Fried Cabbage II

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2008
We love cabbage with bacon. I use pre-cooked bacon to lessen the clean up and saturated fat. I Cook it in the microwave, I use 1 slice of bacon to each cup of cabbage.I never add sugar I add grated Apple instead, a sweet apple with or without the skin.To make this go faster I cook the chopped onion (I use a whole onion)in the microwave in a little oil, about Five minutes till it is translucent then transfer it to my wok pan. I wilt the cabbage in the microwave it becomes a nice bright green. Then add apple and cabbage to wok pan. When cabbage is tender to your liking sprinkle with Cider vinegar and crumbled bacon. This is always a hit.

Banana Prune Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
I use this often, too bad prunes have such a poor acceptence, they are so very nutritious. I always use half white whole wheat and half non-bromated unbleached flour. They are great for us.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2006
I followed the recipe but substituted onions for leeks. When making soups I precook my vegetables in the microwave this hastens the cooking process and eliminates spatter.

Bean Soup With Kale

Reviewed: May 20, 2005
I have used this recipe since I saw it in an article on eye health. It is one of our favorites. I sometimes substitute one can of Dark kidney beans for one of Cannellini and I blend the kidney beans for thickening. It varies it a little and is just as great. We love it either way.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2002
When I serve this I keep printed recipes on hand. I know someone will ask me for it. It uses homemade cheese sauce instead of canned soups. I try to avoid the MSG in these soups so it is more than 5 stars in my book.
