About this Cook
My boyfriend and I began cooking in an effort to cut back on the cost of food (those microwave dinners cost a fortune!) In the past six months we have mastered beef stew, most chicken dishes, salmon, and cereal (I've got the pouring down like no other). Thank god we aren't vegetarians, although I would love to learn some vegetarian dishes (meat ain't cheap either).
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook bread, but have yet to make an edible loaf. I seem to be pretty good with meats, but just awful with breads and cookies, which is unfortunate considering my sweet tooth.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being chased out of the kitchen by my mother.
My cooking triumphs
Did I mention the cereal?
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 13 I tried to make potato soup, only I misread the instructions and used corn syrup instead of corn starch (I didn't know either one from Adam), then tried to fix my mistake by adding more and more water... needless to say we ate instant Mac that night.

Potato Pancakes I
I loved them! Definitely squeeze or press the excess moisture from the shredded potatoes or the mix will be too watery and you'll have to compensate with extra flour, which makes doughy. I also added some shredded cheese and served them with a fried egg on top (at this point, healthy has gone out the window). They were delicious.

Easy Tilapia with Wine and Tomatoes
Even though this wasn't my kind of dish (I'm not a big tomato sauce fan) I gave it five stars because my husband absolutely loved it. He said it actually tasted a lot like a dish that he orders at the Olive Garden. It was very easy to make - 5 minutes of prep time; I pretty much just did my own thing while it cooked, which only took about 20 minutes. I'll be adding this one to our repertoire!

'Out of Salad Dressing' Salad Dressing
I thought this recipe was great - we didn't have fresh parmesan so I had to use pregrated and mix it with the dressing in a blender - next time I'll use freshly grated, I'm sure it will be even better.
