I'm a 28 year old wife, mother and nurse trying to get started at being self-sufficient and proficient in cooking. Yikes! I've been improving at cooking...some failed dishes, but many edible dinners. I hope to eventually learn how to prepare delicious meals.
My favorite things to cook
I've been turned on to meal planning for the week. So, I've been trying a different dinner every night. I do best with baking a dish, but I've recently discovered the beauty of slow cookers...very convenient! Just dump it and leave it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For Thanksgiving, everyone in my family is assigned a dish. Mine has been the sweet potatoes for the past couple years. I love spending time in the kitchen with my family!!
My cooking triumphs
Yummy sweet potato casserole, Italian-cornflake-crusted baked chicken, Beef stew, Pretzel chicken, Miso soup, Couscous salad, Cucumber sandwiches, Sweet chicken curry sandwiches...and that ends my list!
My cooking tragedies
Sweet and sour chicken (way too bland), Lemon poppy seed bunt cake (would not bake through...no idea what I did wrong!), 3rd degree burn to the back of my hand while making my first sweet potato casserole (ouch!! ::sigh:: beginner)

Miso Soup
I made this last night and it was great! Just like at the restaurants. I also added some kale to it and let it simmer a little bit longer to wilt the kale, and it turned out very well. Thanks!

Pecan Sandies
These turned out pretty good! They're very sensitive to being left in any longer or shorter than stated...so watch them carefully. I didn't have enough Pecans to crush into the batter, but they still turned out well.
