Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I made this for last nights supper. Followed the recipe & used a small fresh cut onion when browning the meat. Doubled the sauce. Once gravy was made I put it a in a crock pot on low for 4 hours or so. Will make this again & again! Served it with red cabbage, Spaetzle (German egg noodles) & Brotchen. (German Bread) Will add mushrooms to left overs for tonight!

Moussaka

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I made this last night for Hubby & I. I did as others suggested and broiled the eggplant, did not brown the hamburger in butter; I upped the garlic and used 3 eggs. Everything else was as the recipe stated. I used 3 MED sized eggplants and my onions were a MED. size also. I only say this as I was unsure as to what sizes to use & it was PERFECT! I used a pan that was 8X12 BUT is 4" deep. This made a lot & next time I make it for just the two of us I will cut it in half. As others have said this is company good. I assure you I will make this again. It was better than you would get in a Restaurant! ****I have made this a few times now. Love it even more!****

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I made this yesterday morning and when it cooled put it in the fridge till supper time. OK, I bought 4 bottles of clam juice and one broke so I used 3. I used 5 cans of minced clam's & 1 large can of whole clams with the juice & I used fat free 1/2 & 1/2. Everything else I did according to the original recipe. It was my first time making a clam chowder and wanted something to thrill my hubby with who is from Maine. This did it. He was amazed and said it was the best clam chowder he had ever had. I loved it! I think the clam juice bottle that broke was a blessing in disguise! I

Carolina Country Style Ribs

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
Was looking for a new way to prepare some country style ribs and hubby (over my shoulder) saw this one and thought it would be good. Seeing as how we had everything on hand I said "Oh why not". It was easy to prepare. I am startled that we did not like it more. I adore a vinegar based BBQ sauce but this is not what this is. It is a marinade. Very different. Not trying to be harsh but it was almost as if the ribs were pickeled somewhat. I will say that for some reason it was better lastnight when we had the left overs. So seeing as how Hubby picked it out I asked him to give it a star rating and he said 2. Still, it was not bad at all. It's just not our thing.

Beer Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
I made this for my son's 20th Birthday! It was a big hit and he is not a real cake fan! I used Yuengling beer & a cream cheese frosting also on this site drizzeled on top. It would be good without any frosting. Will make this again.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
I made this yesterday and admit I used it as a base start. I have a habit of looking at the recipes and reading the reviews of others before deciding whether to try one or not! I am so glad this one made it to my table! I used 7 chicken thighs as that was what I had on hand. We try to watch our salt intake and after coating the thighs with the dry mix remembered other reviewers said it was too salty so I rinsed off some of the Italian dressing mix off the thighs. Next time I will just use ½ a pack so I will not waste it. After it had cooked for 7 hours I drained the juices out of the crock pot & de-boned and shredded the chicken. Pre-heated the cream cheese & soup mix in a sauce pan with about 1/4 cup of white wine, and instead of sour cream used 4 heaping tablespoons of plain yogurt. When it was hot & no longer lumpy I then mixed it in the chicken added fresh sautéed mushrooms and left it in the crock pot for another hour. Hubby had his on wide egg noodles; I had mine on white rice. Served it with a side salad. It was awesome! I could not believe how easy it was to prepare. I will be making this again! I will give this 4 stars as I believe that had it been made as it was written it would have been very good but feel that the simple additions is what made it so WONDERFUL!***We ate the left overs for diner last night and it was even better! OMG!!! I am soooo looking forward to making this again!

Buttered Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Finally a biscuit recipe that is worth making! I made this twice and need to review both. Friday night I made them just like the recipe said and found them, although very tasty, to be somewhat dry and crumbly for my liking. I baked them in a cast iron skillet that had been oiled with bacon grease as that is what my grandmother used to do. I baked them again this morning only THIS TIME I made the adjustment that others had suggested and I used One cup of buttermilk, this will make the dough very moist / mushy. I plopped the dough on a flowered counter top and flattened out to about an inch thick & then cut out the biscuits. Baked them the same as I did the first time and a few minutes before they were done brushed bacon grease on the tops to give them a golden color (you could use melted butter / margarine) This made all the difference in the world! Hubby was thrilled as was I and we were little piggy’s this morning at the breakfast table! I cannot see myself baking biscuits with Bisquick ever again!

Swiss Chicken Casserole II

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I made this reciepe this past week. I was rather disappointed. I did add the brocolli as others had sugested and I would have not liked it at all without it. Neither hubby or I was very impressed. I will say that the left overs tasted better the next day.

Quiche Lorraine I

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
I used 3 jumbo eggs. I had a peice of fresh brocolli smaler than my fist and cooked it with the onion. Did not add salt, and baked it at 350 for 45 minutes in a prebaked deep dish pie crust that was store bought. Hubby likes it a lot as do I. This will be one to make over & over.

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
Took advice of other member and after stuffing 1/2 the pepper added some of the soup and then finished stuffing. Hubby & I both loved this recipe and will be cooking it again. It was wonderful and was even good left over & reheated! I have to add a star to this. It seems out of all the recipes I have rated this one is on our meal rotation. Easy to make and tastes great. Try adding a few crushed red pepper flakes to the mixture!

Cedar Plank-Grilled Salmon with Garlic, Lemon and Dill

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
Made this a few months back. Am making it again tonight! Followed the recipe to the letter but for 4 portions. It was perfect. I served it on top of roasted garlic mashed potatoes w/ carmelized onion and a strawberry-fetta cheese salad on baby spinach on the side.

Honey Brie Spread

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
I made this as an appetizer for Valentines Day. I modified it a teeny bit as I used a smaller Brie wheel and sliced it in half spreading apricot preserves and pecans in the middle. Wrapped in 8 oz pkg of the crescent roll, gave it a egg wash, and baked it for 15 minutes, THEN added the honey and pecans to the top and baked it for another 15 minutes. I served it with sliced granny smith apples and seedless green grapes & wheat crackers. My Date went nuts over it. I have never seen him dive into something like he did this. Easy to prepare, makes a beautiful presentation, and is unbelievably good. I will be keeping this recipe.

Crab Quiche I

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2008
Recipe was simple to do and easy to follow. After reading other reviews I did add a bit more Swiss cheese and a few dashes of Tabasco. I made this for a special occasion date. It got raves from him and scored me some pretty big points!!! I made another one for my son and he could not get enough of it. I will be making this again.
