I did not give this recipe 5 stars because my roast was dry and tough, but I did not rate it any lower because it may have been the chuck roast itself that was the problem. Per other reviewers, I used a cup of beef broth instead of water and added some Worcestershire sauce and a bay leaf. I did not brown the roast before placing it in the slow cooker, I only added some garlic powder to the roast. When the roast was done, I took the sauce and made a gravy with flour and water. It was delicious! I would also recommend placing the veggies in at the same time as the roast, as my veggies were slightly crunchy.
