I made some scrambled eggs this morning, and realized that I was using what I think may be the coolest piece of gear in my kitchen: a cast-iron pan. Yep—that one. The one my mom gave me when I got my first kitchen. The one I’ve carried from place to place, despite how much it weighs.… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a refugee of the restaurant world, now working as a writer and editor. I don't cook anywhere near as much as I should at home anymore, but I still love to get behind the stove and make good food.
My favorite things to cook
Breakfast; Cajun Foods; Seafood; Anything on the grill; I love making salsa, or anything that requires me to improve my knife skills. And risotto. I love making risotto.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom's cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning; Happy Cocoa at any time during the winter.
My cooking triumphs
Catering several large parties; creating 2 or 3 signature dishes at restaurants where I've worked. At home, it's anytime I can create food that tastes like I want it too.
My cooking tragedies
Macaroni and Cheese. Honestly--I tried following a recipe that I knew was good and believe me, it wasn't when I made it. Still not sure what I did wrong.

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies
Love chocolate chip cookies! Make sure there's some milk around when you eat these.

Fig and Olive Tapenade
Wonderful stuff--I love the little bit of heat the cayenne brings (okay, maybe I accidentally added more than it called for...) Who knew figs were so good with heat like that?

Beef Fajita Marinade
Used this on about 20 pounds of flank steak this weekend. Wow! I wasn't very exact with the measurements, but after marinating most of the day, it was the best flank steak I've ever made. Also, I was running low on tequila, so a little white rum got mixed in, too. Topped the steak with some fresh pineapple salsa, and it was a delight.
