Chicken In Basil Cream

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
This recipe was amazing! I marinated the chicken in Italian dressing for about an hour beforehand and then breaded and fried per the directions. I've found chicken really needs to be marinated in something to stay moist. The only changes that I made other than that we're to add mushrooms to three pan before the chicken broth and some cherry tomatoes halved with the cream and basil. The tomatoes really added to the dish I think. I don't usually change recipes before I try them as written, but I needed to use my tomatoes up because they are growing like crazy and I am having a hard time staying ahead of them! My husband said this chicken is so moist and delicious, and he is not a chicken fan.

Runzas (meat pies)

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2012
I have made these several times. The first time I made as directed and after that I made alterations based on other reviewers suggestions. I made the dough using my Kitchen Aide. I used the whisk attachment for the first part and then switched to the dough hook. I only used one packet of yeast per another reviewers recommendation. After adding enough flour that the dough was cleaning the sides of the bowl I kneaded it for about 6 minutes to make sure the gluten was fully developed. The dough came put perfect after rising for an hour. For the meat mixture I followed another reviewers advice and used just under 2 lbs of meat and a full head of cabbage. I used 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 ground pork and one large onion instead of 2 small. I added 4 cloves of garlic about 1/2 way through the meat and onion cooking. When the meat was mostly cooked I added about 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce. I believe these alterations really gave this dish a boost of flavor. The last alteration I made was following another reviewers suggestion and made a gravy with the meat drippings. This batch was probably the best I've made to date. I definitely won't forget to make the same alterations in the future to make a top notch dish. Thanks so much Dolly for the recipe.

Quick Cheeseburger Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2012
I followed other reviewers suggestions and added a can of diced tomatoes. I would have used swiss cheese, but my husband doesn't like it, so I use cheddar instead. This was soooooooooooooo good, I ate 2 servings and was completely stuffed.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
I love this recipe and make it at least once a month. I use Kay's Spaghetti and Lasagna Sauce from this site. I followed another reviewers suggestion of mixing the sauce with the bottom layer of noodles. Thanks Colleen for a filling and satisfying recipe!

Acorn Squash

I followed the advice of another reviewer and microwaved it first instead of baking it. This went really well with Roast Chicken and Mashed Potatoes.

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2012
I have made this recipe quite a few times now. The first few time I made it as directed and it was amazing. This last time i added some red bell pepper strips and I think it added a nice freshness to the dish. I sauteed them with the mushrooms and onions. I am usually just cooking for myself, my husband and our 1 year old daughter, so I always cut the recipe in half. It still makes enough to feed at least 5 adults with healthy appetites, this reducing the actual calories listed on the page. Enjoy this meal and definitely improvise what veggies you add to the dish!

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
I wish I had NOT added the sherry. I'd made this once before with just Marsala and it was delicious. This time I followed the recipe as written and the sauce was so sour and bitter I had to "doctor" it to salvage the dish.

Mexican Fire Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
I wasn't very impressed with this recipe. I did use ground pork seasoned with taco seasoning, so maybe it would be better with the sausage. It was just really flat and bland.

Easy Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
I haven't come across many dishes on this site that had such high ratings and were this disappointing. My husband NEVER complains about the food that I make, and he did tonight, in fact he didn't even take more than a few bites. I suppose if you really like french onion soup then you might like this recipe, but for us it was way to sweet. I might try it again with cream of mushroom instead, which I should have done in the first place, but I thought I would try something different.

Tomato Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2011
I LOVED this recipe, albeit with a few modifications. I mixed together a 8 oz can of tomato sauce with a can of Rotel. After I browned the pork chops and sauteed the veggies (I added a TBSP or so of garlic) I put them in a 2 QT casserole dish, poured the tomato mixture over the top, put the lid on an baked it in the preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. The dish was extremely flavorful and filling. I served it over rice. I will keep this on my regular rotation. Thanks for the recipe Charmaine!

Brown Rice Lentil Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
So good! I didn't have fresh basil so I sprinkled some dried basil on the green onions and tomatoes and then added the lentils and rice to the bowl. It worked out great and there was still a distinct basil flavor to the dish. I will make this again and again!

Bum's Lunch

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2011
This is a good basic recipe idea for a simple and quick meal. The cooking time was a little off, I had to cook mine for about an hour, but the cube steak came out tender and so did the vegetables. I followed other reviewers advice and added Worcestershire sauce, but it was still a little bland. Next time I think I will add some garlic and maybe some Mrs. Dash to give it more flavors. Bottom line, I will definitely make is again.

Honey Wheat Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
This is a delicious recipe, it is great for any purpose. If you are not using a bread machine, proof the yeast in the warm mil for about 10 minutes and then add the butter, egg and honey. Mix the wet ingredients then add the dry ingredients. I kneaded the dough with my stand mixer for about 5-7 minutes. I use my oven as a proof box by preheating it to 200 with a pan of water on the bottom rack and then turning it off and placing the dough in a greased, glass bowl, turn the dough over so the top is greased, cover with a clean, smooth fabric kitchen towel and let proof for about an hour. punch the dough down and shape into either loafs or rolls and place back in the oven to proof for another hour before baking. Hope this helps!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
Delicious! My husband even liked it even though it didn't have meat in it. I added a little more cheese and spinach than called for, but other than that didn't change a thing. I will definitely be making this again.

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
I followed the recipe almost exactly, except I added 1/2 cream of mushroom and 1/2 sour cream instead of just sour cream. I would have given it a five if it had more flavor, but I found it rather bland, next time I will add more seasoning and some garlic. It is very quick and very filling, a great recipe to use when you're in a hurry or on a weeknight. Thanks for sharing!

Filet Mignon with Mushroom-Cabernet Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
This was a fantastic recipe! My husband and I cooked it together for Valentines Day. We used Pinot Noir for the wine and it turned out perfect. The steak was tender and juicy and full of flavor. Be sure to use thick enough cuts. I wouldn't change a thing when making this recipe.

Caramels

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
I absolutely love this recipe! It does take a long time for the mixture to get to temperature, but the wait is well worth it. I followed the other reviewers suggestions to reduce the temperature by 1 degree for every 500 feet you are above seas level. Everyone loves "my" caramels and cannot wait for the Christmas baking extravaganza. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe with is Barbara

Raspberry Almond Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I used the modification a couple of other users suggested of substituting the water for buttermilk. The muffins were really moist and had no "greyish tint". Another user recommended adding some cinnamon and vanilla extracts which I didn't do, but my try next time. The muffins were really good, but the extra flavor would make them even better!
