Mom's Turkey Sausage Patties

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2010
A good friend of mine makes a great dish with spicy turkey sausage and broccoli rabe. Instead of patties she crumbles up the sausage and adds the broccoli rabe. The only thing I did was use a little more cayenne pepper to spice it up a bit. Great!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
These were really good tasting for roll outs....I found using a little sugar and flour on the counter before rolling...(and a good hour in the fridge) made them easy to roll out. I still had to be super careful after cutting out but had minimal issues...I brushed them with whole milk and covered them with colored sugar and sprinkles. They are the best! Ive made sugar cookies using the "sugar cookies VI" on this site and they were beautiful but nasty! These are soft but still hold their shape....I will use this recipe forever.... :)

Gourmet Sweet Potato Souffle

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
Absolute hit at Christmas last year....making today for Thanksgiving. The only thing I do different is substitute white sugar for light brown (its a little richer and not as sweet) and I omit cloves because I dont like the taste. Fantastic!

Roasted Garlic

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
I love roasted garlic but I do it a little different...I peel each garlic clove and then make a little "bowl" out of tin foil by putting the garlic in the middle and then wrapping the tin foil up and sinching at the top. I leave an opening and put a pad of butter right on top. I also bake at 350 for 30 mins....turns out perfect. I mash it...add a little salt and spread it on italian bread and top it off with a little romano or parmesan cheese!

Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
I did like this recipe but I changed it so my rating isn't exactly the most relevant. I made it exactly like the recipe except I decided to make a mixture of ricotta, mozzerella, parsley and eggs to put in the middle. I put half of the pasta mix on the bottom, the cheese mix and then more pasta with mozzerella on top. I was trying to make an "easy" lasagna but I think it turned out a difficult pasta...lol. I think the real issue was that I bought a mozzerella because it was on sale (cabot) and not my usual (sargento)...Cabot has a little bit of a smoked flavor that I did not care for. Next time I will try it like this again and use sargento and rate again... All things aside, my husband ate two helpings and made a large container for work tomorrow.

Souper Baked Chicken

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
This is a good recipe. I used cream of mushroom soup and I was worried about the soup burning so I baked the chicken in salt, pepper, and garlic powder and drizzled with butter for the first 30 mins. I added the soup, flipped the chicken and baked for the next 30. It was really moist and my husband liked it a lot. The only thing I would do next time is take the skin off.

Famous Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I don't know why these turned out so mushy but I even broiled them at the end till the started to burn and still not crisp. I think I will stick to bread crumbs or maybe try and pan fry them. I gave this recipe four stars though because my husband loved them...my four year old too.

Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccini Noodles

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I didnt have haevy cream but I did have a jar of alfredo from the store and ricotta cheese. I mixed them together and added the sauted chicken. It was really good and it tasted homemade! I never would have thought of this. Turned out excellent.

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
Very good. I don't think its the best I've ever had but definitely good. In all fairness I didnt have any celery salt or garlic salt. I used garlic powder and added regular salt. It was a little too much pickle for me so next time I'll add half. The mustard was great though and next time I might up the celery and mayo. If you need a basis for potato salad this is a good place to start.

Crispy Chocolate Log

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
I admit this recipe is good just the way it is but I have modified it ever since and its ssssoooo much better..... I dont melt the chocolate....it was too heavy that way so I bought the mini chocolate chips and the butterscotch and just sprinkled them on. I also make a version without peanut butter and I add a little food coloring to the marshmallow mix and double the butter....very yummy.... Ive also used large sprinkles inside by themselves for a chocolate free version....

Elegant Turkey Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
This recipe has been a staple for our Thanksgiving meal every year since before I was born. I now make it for my family. My mother never used any alcohol or orange and it is wonderful. I boil the raisins in amaretto but I drain out any extra liquid so that the flavor is not overwhelming. I also bake seperate from the turkey. I fill a 9x13 pan, cover with foil and bake it at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 mins. Sometimes I stir half way through but not always. Covering is the key to keeping it moist. Turkey day would not be the same without this recipe.

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

You really can't go wrong with this recipe. The only thing I do differently is use a full stick of butter and heavy cream. Great place to start though.

Apple Kielbasa Coins

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
I made this last night for dinner and it was great. I only used half the maple syrup but I think next time I'll just do it like the recipe. The only other thing I did was use a whole cup of apple juice to boil the kielbasa in because we like ours boiled or steamed...not pan fried. I did'nt want it to get crispy. It turned out wonderful and I made mashed potatoes and green beans as the sides. Even my three year old loved it. Easy, cheap and fast!

Roasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I did'nt have any fresh garlic but I did have the minced kind in a jar. So I used about three bulbs worth and made the paste by using my immersion blender. It turned out good in spite of the modification. Will try it the right way next time. Oh, I used a lot more parmesan too.

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
This recipe was near perfect. After scooping out my pumpkin I had over three cups of seeds so I doubled spices except salt...just out of personal preference. The only problem I came across was baking time. It took an hour to get them to a slight crunch but they were still mostly chewy. So another half hour got them perfect....very nice but nothing special.
