About this Cook
I was born in Canada but I grew up in an Italian household, and now I am living in Germany with my German husband and our three little boys. I learned to cook at a young age from my mom and my Italian grandmothers. They not only taught me the traditional dishes from the old country, but they also passed down their passion for cooking. I enjoy cooking for my family and friends and am always looking for new recipes to try. I've been using allrecipes.com since 2000 but only became a member in 2007. Over the years, I have found lots of fantastic recipes on this site that my family and I love and that I have added into my regular rotation, so when I rate a recipe I try to be fair and honest. I also try to include as much detail as possible for future reference for myself and for others who might find the tips useful.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook a lot fo Italian and German, and anything that sounds good. :-)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking along side my mom and grandmothers on Sundays and holidays. Now my little ones help almost on a daily basis and watch what I do. I'm thankful that they have the same interest as I had when I was a little girl.
My cooking triumphs
Some of my Italian big hitters are homemade lasagna, gnocchi, tiramisu, and cheesecake; and some of my German big hitters are Koenigsberger Kloepse and Spiegelei mit Rahmspinat.
My cooking tragedies
I had one of my biggest tragedies shortly after moving to Germany. I made a casserole with grated potatoes, ground meat mixed with some German onion mix, and milk. My husband said it was the worst thing he ever tasted but we still ate it because we were really hungry. My husband won't ever let me live this one down, but I'm happy to say that I haven't had too many tragedies like that since then.

Stovetop Granola
This is five stars all the way! I made this as written with the exception that I used sugar in the raw instead of brown sugar. The granola wasn't as sweet, so to make up for the sweetness I just added a bit of white sugar to the jogurt. A lot of reviews that I read reduced the butter to a couple of tablespoons but I decided to use the entire amount instead. The granola wasn't gooey at all. It had a wonderful butter flavour, and after the granola dried, you could make the clusters as big or as small as you would like. The granola was crispy the day I made it, but after I stored it tightly in a glass jar, it turned out wonderfully chewy. My kids aren't really into granola, but they enjoyed snacking on this one. Will definitely be making this again! Thanks for sharing, mamaiscooking!

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts
This is a great recipe! I halved it and made 12 mini donuts. These tasted awesome as soon as they came out of the fryer. They were very crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. These are the fluffiest donuts I have ever tasted. These donuts tasted even better after they were dipped in the glaze and topped with sprinkles! The only thing was that they were not crispy. Like other viewers, the dough was not sweet enough, but it didn't stop my kids and I from eating them! This was a fun project for my kids, and I will definitely be making these again!

Donut Muffins
I met up with a friend and I told her that I was bringing a treat along. I decided to try this recipe and it was a HUGE hit. She loved them and my kids couldn't get enough of them. I doubled the recipe and used only 3/4 tsp of nutmeg (I thought 1 1/2 tsp would have been too much and over-powering). I baked them in the mini mini muffin tins and got 47 muffins (I did a little taste testing, otherwise, I would have had 48). I then dunked them into butter and then into cinnamon sugar (I used a lot more than what is called for in the recipe), and let me tell you ... these are the best donut muffins I have ever made! These were gone in day and my 5 year old asked me to make them again. This is now my go-to recipe for donut muffins. Thanks for sharing, Dianne!
