I'm a inner city middle school reading teacher. I love to cook when I have time and energy because its a creative outlet for me and it relaxes me. I consider every recipe a starting point not a hard and fast rule and most of my dishes were somebody else's idea I took and ran with.
My favorite things to cook
Garlic Ginger Indian Chicken, tortilla soup, chocolate cake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On your birthday you get to pick the meals you want for breakfast and dinner. I like it so much I have made it a rule in my own household. As far as comforting memories: Coming home to the smell of cream chip beef over mashed potatoes on cold night or gingerbread with whipped cream made me feel that certain important things were stable . My mom is great at loving on people with food and I hope I get as good at it as she is.
My cooking triumphs
When I can tweak a recipe because I imagine what the combination will be like, and it comes out just right.
My cooking tragedies
I can't get Barefoot Contessa's ultimate brownie recipe to cook right. The batter tastes amazing, I mean perfect but it won't cook right. I feel defeated and keep trying, but its expensive to make. I'm missing something.
