Marie's Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2011
This would have gotten four stars from me had it turned out even a little crispy. The skin was rather mushy which I didn't find appealing. The parm gave the breadcrumbs a nice flavor but I didn't feel the sesame seeds added much. Next time I'll use the breading for fried chicken fingers instead. Thank you!

Too much rosemary for my taste but otherwise the herbs made a flavorful potato. Thank you!

Zeppole

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
I'm speechless! Seriously, I don't even know what to say about these except that I can't get my mouth to stop dancing. I've had zeppole's at friends homes and at country fairs, but have never made them myself until today. What have I been waiting for? Because I made these on a whim, I didn't have any ricotta in the house so I subbed with vanilla yogurt. Trust me folks, it worked amazingly well. I also used one tsp. of vanilla and two teaspoons of sugar. I can't wait to make these for my daughters next month! Thank you SO much for a fantastic recipe!!!!!!!!

Raspberry Oat Bars

Oh YUM! Per another reviewer I cut back the sugar by half and replaced a quarter of the butter with applesauce. Not only is this a great dessert but it also goes wonderfully with morning coffee. Thank you so much Corwynn!

Oh my word Mary, is this ever a fantastic recipe! I make a lot of different types of bread and my S.O. and I both agreed that this was the absolute best! Thank you so very much!

Chicken A La King

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Good base recipe but it definitely needed some spicing up along with more liquid. I added more milk than suggested as well as chicken broth in lieu of the granules and water. To make it more of a complete meal I mixed in a package of stir fry vegetables. With some tweaking, this is a great weeknight meal. Thank you Rebecca!

Crusty White Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Very nice bread Dingo. Decided on Chicken a la King for dinner last night and realized I had no bread in the house. I make lots of bread but this was my first attempt at a regular white bread and it didn't disappoint. The only change I"ll make next time is replace the sugar with some honey. Thank you!

Turkey Broccoli Hollandaise

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
We really enjoyed this comforting and yummy dish! Being that I only had chicken cutlets in the house I used those instead of turkey and to jazz it up a bit, I sliced the chicken breasts into thick strips then breaded and fried them. This is certainly the kind of dish you can you can quickly throw together with any leftover meat or vegetable you happen to have in the fridge. So good Pamela and thank you!

We're really enjoying these Virginia! I added vanilla, a bit of nutmeg and used butter instead of shortening. These are definitely cakey but chewy at the same time and really yummy. Thank You!

Baby Carrots And Brussels Sprouts Glazed With Brown Sugar and Pepper

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
Like others I also found the sauce to be a little too soupy and needed to add a bit more brown sugar. I let the sauce simmer which helped thicken it up. Otherwise, this was absolutely delicious and even my S.O. who's anti brussel sprout absolutely loved this side dish. Thank you Christine!

Kartoffel Kloesse (Potato Dumplings)

My Oma always used to make these too and we all loved them as kids. These dumplings were wonderful but the only change I made was replacing the nutmeg with garlic and onion powders. So good SlimCooking and thank you!

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
My Friendship Diner forum friends and I chose this as our January Community Cook-along recipe. So far the we've several ratings from "I loved it" to "I didn't care for this at all." From my rating you can see where I stood on this. First of all, altho I truly like every one of the ingredients in this recipe, I felt none of them were team players. I tasted every ingredient separately instead of having them engage to create a tasty sauce. I'm a huge vinegar fan but I felt there was just way too much of it. My S.O. liked it better than I, so at least that was a plus. However, I thank you Moonandback because there were members on my forum who gave this one four and five stars and that makes me happy!

Nonna's Tuscan Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
Even tho I made a few adjustments, I'm still giving this four stars being the recipe was born with good bones and what too much vinegar is for some can be just the right amount for others. I love vinegar but found this to be too sour so I got out my trusty "Cruet" and followed the vinegar, oil and water lines on the bottle. I still found it to be a bit strong so I added some corn syrup. My only other addition was an increase in the parm as I couldn't really taste the two tablespoons offered. The end result is a terrific dressing that I know my S.O. will just love. Thank you so much Baricat!

Hockey Pucks

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Oh my are these ever addicting not to mention absolutely delicious! I found I needed to add butter to the chocolate to make it smoother and to add a little shine. I did half with crunchy PB and half with a spicy PB. Just about anything goes with this recipe....jam, marshmallow creme, hazelnut spread, almond butter, cashew butter etc. Who thought such a simple idea could be so darn good?! Thank you so much Denyce!!

Chicken a la King I

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
As written I felt this was a little on the bland side but several different seasonings did the trick. In addition to the suggested vegies I also threw in leftover mixed vegetables I had in the fridge, made this with leftover chicken and served over leftover rice. It just doesn't get any easier than than that. Thank you Colleen!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Well like everyone else, we thought these were fabulous. I accidentally mixed the sugar and the butter together and when I realized my mistake I ran to the recipe buzz to ask for help. Everyone said it was just fine as is and it certainly was. Thank you so much Marsha!

Non-Edible Cinnamon Ornaments

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
Just adorable Susan! I remember my own kids making these in school as Christmas gifts for us and have always treasured them. Altho the scent is long gone, to this day, they still hang on my tree. I decided to make these with my sweetie's grandchildren over the weekend and each little ornament turned out so cute. The kids had a blast and thank you Susan!

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
I would have rated these a lot higher if I could figure out a way to get them off the plate. So far I've been chippng away at them but it looks like the plate needs to soak in the sink to remove the rest. Sorry. Maybe parchment paper would work?

Luscious Lima Bean Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
This was a great starting point that ended up being a fantastic soup! I used dried beans instead of frozen and Taylor Ham in lieu of the bacon as that was all I had in the house. I skipped the butter and just tossed all of the vegetables including spinach and green beans right into the pot. Homemade turkey stock took the place of the canned broth. Once the beans were just about tender, I scooped about half of them out and pureed them in the food processor to make a thicker soup. Needless to say, garlic and onion powders also seasoned the soup as well as savory and dried parsley. A one pot, perfectly healthy meal that this Jersey girl and her Kentucky sweetie really enjoyed. Thanks so much NJSnowbird.

Quick Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2010
These cookies are melt in your mouth delicious!!!!! I've eaten four already and they're not even cooled yet! However, there is absolutely, positively no need for a whole cup of sugar in this recipe. I used a half cup of brown sugar and trust me, it was plenty! I also added a tsp. of vanilla and a tablespoon of flour. With the sugar reduction, peanut butter cookies just don't get much better than these. Thank you Vicki!
