About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. More so than making a meal. I've found a talent in baking that is rewarding and fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies around the holidays holds an important significance to me. Christmas isn't the same without my family's traditional cookie recipies.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at Angel Food cake. I undercooked it and it collapsed (fell right out of the cake pan when I fliped it over). I was left with a wet and very sticky mess on my counter top. But as I see it first (and sometimes second and third) attempts is where you are allowed to make mistakes. After all if you don't know how to do it wrong how would you know you are doing it right?

Easy Lemon Cookies
What a great, simple recipe! And delicious to boot! Like others I didn't have lemon extract so I used the zest and juice from 1 lemon instead. I also chilled the dough in the refrigerator for an hour or so and it was much easier to handle. For those whose cookies don't seem to bake right the first time do a single test cookie rather than cooking the whole batch. Every oven is different, try changing the temp/time to get the desired results. My oven at 375* and 9 minutes browned the cookie but left the inside undercooked. I dropped the temp to 360* and increased the cook time to 12 minutes and they came out perfect. Don't be afraid to try a couple different settings or bake times.

Chicken Katsu
Simple yet tasty. My oil was a bit hot on the first try and I blackened the coating a little but chicken came out perfect. Second time around was spot on, golden and crispy. Seems too simple a recipe for the great results. Next time I'll try kicking things up with some curry powder.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches
This recipe is too simple to be this great! It was the eaisest slow cooked pulled pork I've ever made. The only thing I did different was cook it on low for 10 hours (so it would be ready after I got back from work) and used bone-in country ribs because they were cheaper. This recipe is monkey proof. Anyone can do it, no matter their cooking experience.
