Baked Macaroni and Cheese III

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
A wonderful recipe. I gave it 4 stars because it could have been a little bit moister even though I took it out of the oven just as the top was browning. Next time I will make more of the milk mixture. Also, this would be great with chicken or tuna added. The egg in the recipe makes the dish satisfying. Husband liked it, I will make it again.

Aunt Anne's Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
Simple and light and delicious. I made this coffee cake this evening and my husband loved it suggesting next time I bake a bigger pan of it. I did not give it 5 stars because it was not like my grandmother's, and I am on a search for a stellar recipe.

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
I have made this soup four times now and it is a huge hit. Each time I make it I have slightly varied the ingredients, I use pork pan sausage because we butchered hogs and I have so much ground pork. I use lots of garlic and onions and cabbage, and some potatoes, carrots, celery and chicken bullion. The key is the vinegar and the sugar to give this soup that saurkraut taste. I have also made a batch with caroway seeds added but they look a bit much like insects so I would reserve that for family members who are aware. I love this soup!

Sourdough Bread I

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
My dough rose wonderfully overnight and was the most delicous sourdough bread I have ever tasted. I was so pleased to find out that I could actually make something so wonderful. I want to make it for my elderly dad. He would be so proud that i caught wild yeast and then made this bread!

Wild Grape Starter

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
I gave this 4 stars because you do not have to go to as much trouble as this recipe leads one to believe. I just by happenstance had some wild grapes already frozen in my freezer. I just took a few of the wild grape skins, maybe 3 of them and put them into the four and water mix. I then put the mix into a warm and dark place and the yeast from the grape skins was obvious and had innoculated the flour mix. No need to do all that crushing of grapes and fermenting in a bowl. At least for me. Just some grape skins in the flour and water and put in a warm place and the yeast will proliferate.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
Very soft, chewy and moist. Very good dipped in milk, wonderful comfort food! I used the recipe as directed except for adding a 1/2 tsp cloves and 1/2 tsp nutmeg. I rolled the dough into balls and placed on UNgreased cookie sheets. I used non-stick sheets. I baked the cookies for exactly 9 minutes and they were not overdone. The cookies slid right off after 5 minutes of cooling on the sheets. I could not find my wire rack so just put them on a plate after cooling them on the sheet. These are nice cookies.

Cream of Mushroom and Soy Sauce Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
Simple and wonderful! I did not have the Mushroom soup so used a packet of mushroom gravy thickened with flour and milk to give it more substance. I rubbed LOTS of brown sugar into the meat and poured ample soy sauce on the meat and then soaked the meat in that, flipping it over for an hour or two. After cooking in the crock pot all afternoon, the pork fell of the bone and tasted almost like a Chinese dish. It reminded me of Beef Pepper Steaks or something close to that. It would be nice to throw some broccoli and water chestnuts in for the last hour. I served the pork over a bed of white rice. Eggrolls served as a side dish would be nice. When my husband came home from work, he said the house smelled so delicious. He complimented me on the food over and over. We have 3 hogs in the freezer so I need lots of different recipes to cook the pork so it does not get dull and boring eating so much of it. I will make this again for sure and share the simple recipe with family and friends. I love it!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
I made a batch of these as a "test batch" as I am looking for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. Well, this is it! My husband loves these! I am making more to take to our family Christmas. Awesome cookies! Like any cookies, do not overbake, cool 2 minutes on the cookie sheet and then transfer to a wire rack.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
Easy and good. A recipe that can be tweaked. I am taking some of these to our family Christmas gathering along with a few of my other faves. My grown up kids love to have cookies to take home so this year they each get their own tin. Makes me feel happy to find recipes I like and this one is a keeper!
