About this Cook
I don't like Urban winters so I alternate six months in Minnesota, six months on the gulf coast of Alabama.
My favorite things to cook
I cook everyone (15 families) caramels for our Christmas gift exchange; I use the Caramels I from All Recipes. My nephew and his family make jelly jars of the best apple butter ever for the gift exchange! My nephew and his wife make wonderful coconut/butterscotch cookies -- she won't give out the recipe!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a pie contest every Thanksgiving. I won once with a pecan-bourbon-bacon pie.
My cooking triumphs
I have found it is imperative to pay attention to the reviews for each recipe from this web site.
My cooking tragedies
I've had plenty of cooking disasters but I just keep in mind my grandmother's. As a new bride she got a job as a cook for her new husbands lumberjack crew. She tried making bisquits but they burned. She threw them out the window into the creek where they floated down to where the crew were working. She was ribbed about the floating black bisquits for a long, long time.

Jelly Bean Nests
What a mess. I'm too far into it to quit, but never again. I added choc. chips, otherwise it would have been tasteless.

Rachel's Cranberry Chicken Salad
Absolutely my favorite chicken salad. I've used cranberries, cherries, even currents.... people rave about this recipe.

El Rancho Beer Dip
Easy to make. It tasted pretty bland. Tried it warm (not hot) and it tasted better. I'll serve it both ways.
