Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2013
These are like candy! I added a couple of tablespoons of oil and a couple tablespoons of maple syrup with salt and pepper into a zipper bag. Boiled the Brussels sprouts in salted water for five minutes, cooled and then halved them. (That makes them more tender.) Tossed them in the bag with the oil, syrup, and seasonings to coat. Spread them out on a sheet lined with foil. I didn't add bacon. They took almost 45 minutes. So yummy!

Leslie's Salty Grilled Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2008
Yum! Potatoes grilled this way are the best. Also, you can always set them in a warming tray while you finish the main dish. Sometimes I slice them in half before I cook them and put pieces of butter inside. Then we just add sour cream after they're cooked.

Grandpop's Special Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
This cake is delicious and moist! I increased the cocoa powder to 1 cup and used hot water instead of coffee. It was great.

Chocolate Ganache

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
The ganache is delicious! I whipped it to use as a filling for my daughter's birthday cake. I ended up adding some powdered sugar because I thought it was too dark for younger kids. I think I will try it with other kinds of chocolate for other uses.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
This is exactly the kind of buttercream I wanted - sugary and stiff, just like the bakery. I substituted about 1/6 of the shortening with butter. The frosting has a really good flavor.

Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2013
This has always been a family favorite, but without the cheese. With hungry teenagers, I use a double pack of cooked chicken strips from Costco, a family-size cream of chicken soup, 12 oz of sour cream and 1 1/2 rows of crackers in a 13x9x2. I love the idea of using a roasted chicken too. I serve it over rice or egg noodles, and my kids fight for the leftovers!

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
This cake has a delicious vanilla taste, but the texture is somewhat coarse. It would make a great Boston Cream Pie base with a custard filling and a chocolate ganache glaze.

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
We made this coffee cake last night and baked it this morning. It was just ok - I think there are better coffeecakes out there. It was really sweet. It also had a dense/chewy texture. It took 35-40 minutes to bake too - I am glad I checked on it earlier.
