I started cooking when I was little and my mom and older cousin bought me a kids cookbook. My 18 mo old daughter is already trying to help in the kitchen. I'm hoping she develops a love for cooking like the rest of my family.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. I also love to try new foods, as long as my husband will try it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is 100% German, so we tend to like our German foods (although we'll try anything). We have a lot of handed down recipies from my Great Grandma.

I guess cooking comes really easy to me, so I don't have any real triumphs

Individual Beef Wellingtons
I made this for Mother's Day, and my family raved about it. My daughter kept saying it tasted like cheese-it's inside (no one else thought so), it was fairly simple. I didn't use Sherry as I didn't have any, I used Chardonnay, it worked well, then I chopped up the mushrooms while they were cooking so they were smaller. I did put an egg wash on them before I put them in the oven. I cooked them for about 30 min and they were perfectly medium rare. I left my husbands in for about 5 minutes longer only because he likes his more well done. I wouldn't change a thing.

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese
I made this for my kids and myself as my husband hates Mac and Cheese, plus I had pretty much everything on hand. I more or less halved the recipe. I used the rest of the box of Macaroni, 2 tbs of butter (only because that was what was left in the stick), and a block of extra sharp cheddar which I shredded. It did make a TON of sauce, I needed about a cup more noodles. My son who's three said he loved it better than the box, my daughter said that she liked it but liked the box better. I put extra cheese in the box mix as it is so it was similar in taste but creamier. I'll have the leftovers soon so I hope it heats up nicely.

Apple Stuffed Chicken Breast
I only gave this 4 stars because I altered it a tad. I stuffed it according to the recipe and then wrapped it in a piece of bacon. I was doing 8 chicken breasts so I didn't pan fry them I put then in a 350 oven in a deep pan for about an hour and added the juices in later, then to make the sauce I dumped the juice out into a skillet to thicken. I was serving 1 recovering alcholoic so I put his in a seperate pan and used chicken broth in place of the wine for his sauce. He said it was wonderful. I did have extra stuffing which I sauted in the butter before making the sauce, it added to it. I will be making this again. I served it with baked carrots, crash hot potatoes, homemade bread, a tossed salad, and for desert an upside down chocolate cake.
