Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
Def ok but I agree lacking that push over the top. The cinnamon to sugar ratio is off I think, as cinnamon leaves a dusty feel to the palate in this amt.. Needed 2 tsp sugar to one tsp cinnamon. Also butter flavor crisco best option. Not a really sweet cookie anyway, but could do half light brown and half regular sugar.I think this helps

Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2014
Very good soup but there is an easier way. Hot tomato based liquids in a blender = stained lids and possible explosions. In the future I will puree all the veggies with the chicken broth and all the basil oregano in the blender. Place in the pan to warm/soften then add remaining ingredients. Same results, less work! Otherwise good recipe. Def needs more basil and maybe a bit less carrot.

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2014
Very good cookie, spices mild and just right. Agree with the baker who said to NOT substitute butter for the Crisco. Unless of course you want a flatter cookie. I do not feel it improves the flavor to use butter, and it changes the consistency quite a bit. I've done both ways and prefer the Crisco. Have no idea why you would melt and then let resolidify.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2014
It definitely needed double the spices. Taste was fine and was moist but agree it's a 45-50 min bake time not an hour. I do think that the molasses overpowers next time will cut it in half with honey. I used a very good quality unsulphured molasses too. But very strong !

Custard Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2014
OMG…the holy grail of bread pudding!!!! Used leftover challah bread from my bread machine adventures(got so lazy I just let it be a loaf instead of removing and braiding). It was sooo good kinda makes me want to add some whisky to it for a little zing. No sauce needed because it stays so moist. But again I feel the need to put liquor in this….not sure why but it is absolutely delicious as is !!!!

Quick Savory Cranberry Glazed Pork Loin Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2014
Delicious. I too let the roast get to room temp prior to cooking. Used dried thyme and peach preserves. Don't love cubed bouillon so used one pack chicken flavor enhancer by Swansons. Increased horseradish a tad. Was superb cooked to 145. I just made the sauce on the stove top and chopped up half onion to it as well. Split it to serve half and use half to glaze. There was plenty. Foil in bottom of pan helps with cleanup as the sugar in the jelly can blacken in the pan. Will make often. Thank you for the great recipe!!!

Roast Pork with Maple and Mustard Glaze

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2013
This was good. Need to brown roast first to caramelize otherwise brown but no crunch. Did what another reviewer suggested and doubled marinade and baked potatoes/yams/onions/carrots in separate pan alongside. While not awful they would have been a better contrast tart and tangy rather than sweet. Too much sweetness even with maple syrup. I added cayenne but there's better options out there. Hot and tangy would have been bette and provide some contrast. Also needs served with something green. Hate all beige meals!!! Next time will do the pork to 150. 145 is always too pink for our family even after sitting out. Will do again but lots of changes needed. Try the pork tenderloin with plum sauce recipe instead !!!

This works and is delicious. Our new standard baked chicken breasts. Is hard to get breading thick enough so use super fine grated parmesan not shredded! Delicious and simple.
