I am a fourth year English Literature major in southern Alberta, Canada. Started cooking when I started school, and it's been fun learning both! I love trying new things, and cooking is no exception. Allrecipes is great, because it's free! and, I can search by ingredient, not having to compromise my grocery budget!
My favorite things to cook
Anything with fresh veggies, so I can be liberal with my spices. Citrus-y fish dishes are usually simple and pleasing as well. I enjoy a lot of asian fusion salads during the summer, and am an absolute glutton for chili, pasta & squash in the cooler months! I always improvise when cooking, and rarely follow a recipe to the tee; I'll even experiment with baking, I prefer to sub out milk & butter for yogurt & applesauce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
making gnocchi and fresh bread with nonno & nonna.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 07.. my first turkey and stuffing, with all the sides. spending a whole day cooking was a blast! Also, a huge batch of pad thai I made: all the guys had third helpings, and the girl's took the leftovers!
My cooking tragedies
Anything that requires deep frying usually turns out to be a disaster. Did I saw usually? Picture flecks of burnt skin and hair drifting weightlessly out of the kitchen and onto my guests while trying to deep fry wontons... yech!
