This is a great starter recipe. Since I was cooking for my small family of 2, I used 2 lbs of shoulder roast. I didn't have any dry onion soup mix, so I chopped up 1 cup of onion, celery and garlic and sauteed it in butter, salt, garlic powder, cumin, thyme. I also used 1/2 cup chicken broth and 1 tbsp of worchester instead of water. Combined it all with 1 can of mushroom soup. Added some chunky bits of onion, celery and carrots. A few tbsp of cornstarch at the end will help thicken the gravy. I also browned my roast with flour, salt, pepper before adding it to the slow cooker. 5 hours later on high and it turned out splendid. Flavorful and tender! Will be making this one again.
