Slow cooked winter foods with brown rice, foods that taste even better the next day....brisket, beef stew. Lots of different chicken dishes
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother made something she called American chop suey.....hamburger, sauteed onions, different kinds of cooked pasta and spaghetti sauce all mushed together and then baked for an hour to get crispy on top...then put parmesan on. Great (better) the next day fried up in a pan with eating popcorn.
My cooking triumphs
Made a complete Chinese meal, many courses for a copule who were new friends. Very impressive.
My cooking tragedies
My next door neighbor laughed like crazy when I couldn't make whipped cream in my blender....that was early on.....didn't think about the cream needing air to make it whip.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
So funny. I was reading the reviews and how people change this recipe. I've been using it for years and it is THE BEST! I made it last night for a party and everyone was raving. The only change I make is adding a tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg and tsp of vanilla to the apples (which also keeps the apples from changing color at all while preparing the caramel and the lattice crust) and I don't slice the apples, I pare them since I like smaller, random pieces of apple. I still pour the caramel VERY SLOWLY over the lattice crust, concentrating on getting it in the holes of the lattice, and I cook it for the full hour, covering the edges for 15 minutes during the baking if the edges are getting a little too brown. I've never met anyone who doesn't love this apple pie (and I never liked apple pie until this one.)

Pumpkin Ginger Cupcakes
These cupcakes were as good as described. I couldn't get the crystallized ginger at the store I was in so I didn't use problem. I didn't frost because so many people said they were great unfrosted and who needs the extra calories. They were great. Took them to a Halloween party. Will make them for Thanksgiving. Definitely *****. They took way more than 20 minutes to bake though.....more like 30-35.

Soy Ginger Salmon
I always made salmon with bread crumbs and lemon butter so I was looking for something different. This was awful.
