Squash Braid

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Our family loves squash bread. I made this recipe once as a braid, and once as rolls. Works beautifully as both. Thanks for sharing!

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Very tasty, and not difficult to make! I substituted toasted blanched almonds that I chopped up for the pistachios, as I couldn't find shelled pistachios and didn't want to mangle my fingers shelling them. I might try dipping one end of the cookies in white chocolate next time.

Pecan Sandies

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Makes a lot! Our family enjoyed these - nice and light, very sandy texture (but does make a lot of crumbs while eating, and delicate to store). The flavor was very nice. Next time I'll definitely half the recipe.

Chocolate and Butterscotch Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Easy to make, hubby really enjoyed these. Might save a little more of the condensed milk for the butterscotch half next time as it was rather thick.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Not real happy with this dough. For one, it calls for too much flour (maybe 2-1/2 cups would be about right). It was very difficult to spread in the pan, certainly couldn't just pat it out - had to get out my roller to get it to do anything. Once baked, it was more like a dense biscuit dough than pizza dough. I don't think the yeast had a chance to do anything at all. It might be quick, but not really worth it.

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
This had good banana flavor, but the texture was a bit gummy for our liking. We prefer fluffier pancakes. I think if I made it again, I'd just use one banana.

Kraut Bierocks

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
My family really liked these. I made the rolls exactly as the recipe stated, using my KitchenAid to do the kneading for me. The dough was very nice and soft. I used a variation of the filling: 1 lb of diced Kielbasa, a bag of preshredded coleslaw mix, 1 diced onion, prepared mustard, and pepper. They were nummy! My husband liked his dipped in coarse-ground mustard. Thanks!

Cranberry Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
These are good scones, but I'll make a few modifications next time around. As with other reviewers, the dough ended up WAY too sticky. I ended up using much more flour just to handle it. I may try the yogurt suggestion next time. The taste though is very good, and they ended up nice and moist with a nice burst of that tart/sweet cranberry in there. Thanks!

Really Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2008
We didn't care for this recipe. It was really dense and gummy with all those eggs. The eggs also masked a lot of the banana flavor. I was hopeful because we raise chickens and I'm always on the lookout for recipes that use up a lot of eggs, but this isn't one I'll make again.

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
Tasted pretty good, and were fairly simple to make. The kids enjoyed helping me press out the tortillas. They were a little drier than I preferred; our local mexican restaurant has the moistest, fluffiest fresh tortillas, and I was hoping for a closer match, but these are pretty good nonetheless. I'll keep looking for a moister end product.

Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
Very nice and thick eggnog. Not something to drink everyday, but a nice splurge! I had a bit of trouble with it curdling on me (my fault - I let it get too hot), but a quick spin in the blender fixed it right up. Thanks!

Manicotti Shells

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
Very easy to make, and tasted great! I like this method of making manicotti much better than the boil and fill the slippery shell variety. It's nice to be able to whip these up at a moments notice and not have to worry about having shells on hand. Thanks!
