Cheesecake Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
I rarely make anything that isn't from scratch, but I sure am happy that I went out on a limb and made these! I followed the recipe exactly and when they came out of the oven I topped them with a little bit of blueberry pie filling. Yum!

Nova Scotia Blueberry Cream Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2011
I, like many others, mixed my berries in with the sour cream mixture. After 70 minutes at 375 it was VERY jiggly. After about 30 minutes it the fridge it was still warm, but mostly set. I topped each piece with a large dollop of freshly whipped cream. It was good. My husband thought it was excellent.

Excellent! This is such a simple recipe to whip up. Took me back to the South where I grew up.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2011
Since I found this a couple years ago, it has become the only biscuit recipe I use. I have made it many, many times exactly as written as well as my own variations. The only thing I always do is use butter instead of shortening. Today, I increased the butter to 1/2 cup and decreased the milk to 3/4 cup and used the other measurements as written in the original recipe. They were definitely the best. I will always make them this way from now on.

Honey Peach Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
This is excellent! I tweaked this just a little and used the filling recipe in a cobbler. I used all of the ingredients exactly as written except honey as I didn't have any. I used light corn syrup instead, but will absolutely try it again with the honey. I skipped the refrigeration step and poured it from the saucepan directly into a glass 9" x 13" baking dish. I then topped it with 12 biscuits ("J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits" from this site with the sugar increased to 1/4 cup). It was delicious!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
This is a good recipe. I only made one tiny change that I think made a world of difference. I added a little fresh mint which really brightened up the salsa. It also dressed up the dish which is good since it's very simple. Next time I would skip the preserves.

Spicy Bean Salsa

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
I made this to take to work and it is fantastic! I didn't use the salad dressing...just the juice of 1 large lime. It was perfect. The only other change I made was to add a little cilantro. I will definitely make this again!

Golden Cheese Yeast Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
This was delicious. I halved the recipe and made 2 smaller loaves. Aside from adding 1/2 c more cheese to the dough, I followed the recipe exactly. I also sprinkled a little cheese on top just before baking the bread. It made a perfect ham & cheese sandwich to take to work. I will definitely make this one again!

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
The flavor of this cake is excellent, but mine did turn out very dense (but very moist) even though I beat the daylights out of the batter after each addition. I increased the vanilla to 1 Tbsp and added sprinkles for a "funfetti" cake. My batter was VERY fluffy...kind of like a cool whip consistency. I am going to give this another try with more milk as suggested.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
These cookies are perfect! I made them for my sisters bake sale and used the "Sugar Cookie Icing" recipe from this site and piped it on. I got wayyy more than 5 dozen with a 3 x 1.5" cutter though. I stopped baking when I hit 100 cookies and still had 1/2 the dough left! My oven runs hot and I only needed 2:30-3 minutes to cook completely anything more and the edges started to brown too much. Thank you for this recipe! I will definitely make them again!

Pumpkin Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Wonderful! This was my first time trying pumpkin butter (silly me) and it was so good! I only made one change which was to use brown sugar and cut it way down to about 2 Tbsp. I put it on a pork tenderloin that I crusted with pumpkin pie spice, salt, and pepper. YUM!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Delicious! I do not like spicy foods, but somehow I ate my whole bowl of this chili even though it was way too hot for me. My husband who is less of a wuss lol said it was the perfect amount of heat. I was kind of lacking in the grocery department so I did have to make a few minor substitutions. I didn't have any green peppers so I just left it out. I used 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 can of tomato paste because I didn't have any sauce. I used 1 can each of red & white kidney beans and 1 can of white navy beans because that's what I had. Otherwise, I followed the recipe as written and I will definitely make it again!

Famous No Coffee Pumpkin Latte

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
I tried this twice and liked it both times. I only had 1% milk, but next time I have some whole milk I will make it again just to see how it is as written. My husband liked this too which I was very surprised about as he hates coffee (yes, he's crazy) and rarely drinks anything hot. I added 1/2 a pack of Starbucks VIA coffee to mine both times. The second time I made it I used my immersion blender to smooth it out a bit. This made it much better and changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Smooth and creamy. Very tasty.

Bread Machine Bagels

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
Delicious! I made 4 cinnamon raisin and 4 everything bagels. For the cinnamon raisin, I wanted swirls like commercially-made bagels so I flattened the dough a bit and sprinkled cinnamon and raisins over it. Then, I rolled it up like cinnamon buns and rolled it up again in the other direction. Next, I separated it into 4 pieces and rolled 'em up into a ball and continued with the steps as written in the recipe. On 2 of them I sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top after brushing on the egg wash. They were absolutely fantastic and I'll definitely do that again. Just a heads up: my oven usually runs hot, but these took over 30 minutes to bake.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
This recipe is perfect. I almost never follow recipes, but the only changes I made to this one were to double the sauce and omit the flour. It smells awesome, looks awesome, and tastes awesome! Delicious!!!

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2010
This was good, but it wasn't my favourite. I didn't have cream so I used all milk and doubled the cinnamon. Before I put it in the oven I sprinkled each slice generously with pumpkin pie spice. I will try this again with cream and see if I like it better. I think this would also be good for a chilly Fall morning with pureed pumpkin mixed into the liquid mixture.

Mini Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
These were very, very good! I added 1/8 tsp each of ground cloves, allspice, and fresh nutmeg. My batter was a bit too thick - next time I'll add more pumpkin. Yum!
