Make-Ahead Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
A great recipe for a large amount of people. A huge time saver for sure! They heat up terrifically. I added alot more butter, and will probably cut down the sour cream next time I fix it.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
Wowza! My first time making a "from scratch" yeast bread. I'm eating it as I write this, and all I can say is that it reminds me of the first time I ever ate homemade bread, that my now deceased grandama made. She was from Pennsylvania, which is Amish country and the reason I chose this recipe. Thanks for the recipe.....and BTW, I used half the sugar that was called for.

Pumpkin Crumb Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Very good. I added some allspice as others suggested. I also kept it refridgerated it to firm up the middle layer. And I agree with another poster, it tastes better the next day...

Chocolate Chip Snack Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
I don't like frosting, so this cake was just what I was looking for. Very moist and yummy! I didn't have German chocolate, so I just used two Hershey chocolate bars.

Ground Beef Lo Mein

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
I believe that there is an error in the way the recipe ingredients were written. I think it was supposed to say 1/4 cup (not 1/4 tsp.) soy sauce. I made the recipe with that in mind and it tasted good! Will make again using chicken.

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2011
Yummo! I tripled the spices as others suggested. Served it with the avacado salad that the reviewer naples suggested. I also baked the meat at 400 degrees for half an hour or so with the juices left over from the crock pot. Topped with lettuce, tomato and cheese. I seriously thought my husband was going to cry when he ate these!

Avocado Salad with Bacon and Sour Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2011
Awesome! I prepared this a day in advance and served with the crock pot carnitas recipe on this site. I tasted it when I first prepared it and it was good. The second day...it was delicious! The flavors really combined having sat overnight.

Chicken Suiza Cornbread Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
Took the advice of other reviewers; added the whole 4 oz. can of chilis, replaced a can of cream of chicken soup and 1/2 cup sour cream for the 1 1/2 cups sour cream, sauted fresh mushrooms instead of using the jarred, and added two eggs instead of the substitute. My boyfreind liked this quite a bit, but all I tasted was corn. I didn't NOT like it per say, I just think the corn overpowered everything else, and I also expected it to taste more mexican. I couldn't even really taste the chicken mixure on top at all. I'll try this one more time since my boyfriend liked it, but I'll use more chili's, add some mexican spices to the chicken mixure and omit the can of whole kernel corn.

Hot Beef Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
Very Good! I used just one jar of the dried beef, and I personally thought it was just the right amount. I also rinsed the beef before adding to the other ingredients as others suggested.

Baked Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2012
Best ham I've ever made. I put a 10 pound shank end in the crock pot (had to cover with foil as it was too big to put the lid on) and cooked it overnight while we slept. I just poured coke over the ham until the liquid came about 1/4 way up the side of the crock pot. The meat fell off the bone the next morning, and the juice that the ham/coke made is incredible! Thanks for the recipe!

Buffy's Refried Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2012
Delicious! Will never buy canned beans again. I took the suggestions from another reviewer and used chicken broth in place of water and added garlic and cumin. And I used the lard, which I think made ALL the difference in taste. Thank you for the recipe Buffy!

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
Good flavor, but grossly rich. Believe me, I love decadent food, but after a few bites, we couldn't eat any more.... it was just too rich.

Cheesy Amish Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2013
Very good! I've been wanting to make this for quite some time. I particularly liked the fact that it calls for cottage cheese, instead of milk. I personally think milk makes the eggs in breakfast casseroles tasteless and watery. I found this recipe on the Taste of Home website too, and that recipe calls for six eggs. With that in mind, and this recipe, I compromised and used 7 eggs. I also used smoked gouda cheese instead of Swiss, because I couldn't find a block of Swiss at the two stores I went to. I used O'Brien shredded hash B's and sautéed some mushrooms to add in. Very flavorful casserole, even the next day! Probably the best I've ever had. Will definitely make again and again! I and my hubby thank you for sharing!

Creamy White Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
Get out! This was the "Bomb"! I doubled the recipe using a whole rotisserie chicken (I'm lazy)and used half white pepper and black. I also shredded up about 1 cup of sharp cheddar to throw in at the end, because I had it on hand and needed to use it up. Oh, and I used chicken stock instead of broth. Served it with corn bread slathered in butter. I'm in heaven and so is my man! Thanks for sharing JELZA!
