My favorite things to cook
I love making all of the ethnic foods that I grew up on, from paprikash to cabbage rolls. My mother's Polish/Hungarian background and my dad's German roots lead to so many amazing flavors and variety. I love being able to share that with my own, growing family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up I remember the care and pride that my mother put into cooking, especially when it was an ethnic recipe she grew up with. I now enjoy, more than anything, getting to share that same experience with my young daughter.
My cooking triumphs
I am very new to really cooking. I've never been a bad cook, but it had never been anything that really interested me, especially baking. This past Thanksgiving my mother had to delegate the Thanksgiving menu and I ended up being assigned to pies. PIES!! Not only do I not cook, I especially don't bake. However, I made pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies from SCRATCH!!! Thanks to All Recipes they were awesome and the experience was so rewarding. Since then cooking is becoming part of my identity. My husband enjoys the fresh meals and variety and my daughter loves getting to help in the kitchen. She may even have a new hobby.
My cooking tragedies
Being new to cooking there are plenty of tragedies, but thankfully nothing too severe. Because of the reviews provided with All Recipes I have been able to avoid complete catastrophe. I have had some interesting mashed potatoes (talk about lumps) and I learned that if you try to layer and frost a cake before it has cooled you better have a replacement, especially when it's for a birthday party that same day.

Mary's Roasted Red Pepper Dip
It was such a strong red pepper taste. It didn't really seem to mix well with the other flavors. One thing I would recommend is to eat them with tortilla chips. The saltiness of the chip was nice with the dip.

Swedish Meatballs II
I am only rating the sauce because I had frozen meatballs that I had to use up. It was amazing. I love swedish meatballs, but only ever got to eat the frozen dinner ones. My husband didn't care for it, but he is a self-proclaimed hater of all white sauces.

Graham Cracker Muffins
I had an excess of graham crackers, and this recipe looked easy. My kids had fun crushing the graham crackers and devouring the muffins. I followed the recipe as is and it was great, but I don't like sickeningly sweet things.
