Tempura battered Halibut and chips. I also like to try the recipes I see on my favorite show, America's Test Kitchen.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father and mother both cook but I make entirely different things. The only exception is my father's recipe for pizza dough.
My cooking triumphs
Orange Flavored Chicken. I have a few recipes that are very good but the Orange Flavored Chicken I made for the first time 2 weeks ago is, so far, the best yet.
My cooking tragedies
My earliest failure was at age seven with my "Suzy Homemaker" oven. My mother tried a piece of the itty-bitty cake I had made. I even made icing. My mother asked me what I used to make the icing. I replied, "Quick, flour and water". My mother said "that's chocolate flavored paste!" She took me into the kitchen and taught me how to make real icing. Ironically, it was more often the failures, not the successes, that were the greatest teachers.

Berry Crumb Bars
I considered making a pie today until I came across this recipe. I put more fruit in than the recipe calls for, approximately 6 cups. 2 cups each of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. I added a half cup of oatmeal to the top crumble and used a half/half combination of shortening and butter. It is delicious. My husband says it's not as good as a pie but I disagree. It was also a lot less work than pie.

Baked Flan
This is the base recipe I use to make flan. I use all the same ingredients but instead of the 2 cups of heavy cream, I use I can of evaporated milk. I also bake it in 8 separate custard cups.

Banana Banana Bread
This is a very good recipe. It takes between 4 and 6 bananas, depending on the size of the bananas. The first time I made it I used 4.5 large bananas. Today I used 5 medium bananas. I make the recipe as written. It is the best banana bread recipe I have ever used.
