Perfect Sushi Rice

Reviewed: May 22, 2013
The recipe was great. I was a little worried about the amount of liquids added, but it came out perfect. After reading one of the reviews I cut the sugar in half, but then ended up adding about a tablespoon more because the rice had too strong of a vinegar flavor. It probably would have been just fine with the full amount of sugar. I have saved this recipe and will definitely refer to it again. Thanks for sharing!

Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
This came out great - I had a TON of left over homemade challah bread and ended up throwing in a bit more (still have some left)and that seemed to take care of the undone problem that some reviewers have mentioned. Other than that, it came out great - I did it just as the directions said. And YES - it DID make my house smell AMAZING!!! Thanks for sharing!

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2012
These cookies taste good - however I would put in a little salt, maybe 1/4 teaspoon next time I make them - it might bring out the flavor a little more. Also, the baking time needs to be about 15 minutes, I made 4 dozen, so they weren't too big, but they did need a little more time in the oven. I would recommend these.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
OK... so this bread came out great, but I made the Martha Stewart modifications that were suggested in one of the other reviews: I made sure to cream the butter & sugar together WELL & then I mashed the bananas. The sour cream really gives this bread a great flavor & texture. I also added chocolate chips instead of walnuts to make it even more of a dessert. My husband liked it because it was not too sweet (even with the chocolate) and the moist texture was perfect. So, although I really suggest making the modifications others mentioned, the bread came out great!

Banana Oatmeal Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
These came out great - very much like banana bread, except in cookie form. My husband, daughter & friends loved them. I didn't use the chopped nuts, but I did add about 3 handfuls of semi-sweet chocolate chips. This recipe is a great way to use up over-ripe bananas.

Every Russian family makes Olivyeh a little different, but this is definitely not it!

Split Pea and Ham Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2011
This was my first ever attempt at making pea soup & it came out great. I read a lot of the other reviews & added things like carrots, celery, garlic & some homemade chicken stock which I substituted for some of the water. I already had a ham bone but I also added cubed ham in the last half hour of cook time. My husband and a friend, who happened to be over, loved it & we have PLENTY of left overs!!! The one thing I would caution anyone about is how much water to add - you can always thin it out with more liquid, just be sure to check the instructions on the split pea bag so you don't make it too runny. I had a large ham bone & the recipe said to cover all ingredients. I realized after I added the liquid that I probably had too much & thankfully scooped some out before it started to cook.

Brussels Sprouts with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
We love this recipe - even my husband, who does not like brussels sprouts, loves it! I have made this several times, but this last time I steamed the halved sprouts & sauteed some chopped onions before adding mushrooms to the pan. I didn't use the parsley or lemon juice & it was a HIT!!!

Harvest Sweet Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
Very tasty & perfect for a chilly evening. It tastes great as is, but I have a hubby who loves cinnamon so I put a few dashes in at the very end & served it garnished with some scallions. My husband had also just grilled some chicken so I put a small handful of cubed chicken at the bottom of each bowl & poured the soup over it. Wonderful! I'm saving this recipe & looking forward to making it again. Thanks for sharing!

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
These came out fantastic. I prepared them as directed & they were great. After reading some of the reviews, I checked to see if they were done before indicated & they definitely needed some more time. They were a big hit & I'm making them again RIGHT NOW!!! :) Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
These cookies are the ultimate "chocolate fix"!! I made them exactly how the recipe is written. Leaving them in the fridge for an hour was enough to be able to handle them. I will definitely be making these again! I'm thinking of using peanut butter chips for the 2nd cup of chips next time.

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Fabulous! Our dog, Magnolia loves them & so do our friends' dogs. I ended up rolling out the dough & cutting dog bone shapes out of it & they baked perfectly... however I did have to watch for some burning on the tips. The water wasn't necessary to make the dough workable. They came out great & I will definitely make them again!!!

Roasted Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
This recipe was good, but not great, so we gave it 3 stars. The flavor was good, the texture was OK & it needed way more than the recommended salt to really bring out the flavor. One thing that my husband & I thought was that it makes for a good starch replacement, but it really is missing something. It's a good alternative to making sweet acorn squash, but some people may have a hard time with the texture and flavor. I will try to experiment with it a bit but I do not recommend serving this to friends without trying it first.

Kid-Friendly Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
This is a great recipe. I like to bake my own bread rather than buying & I appreciate that this dough does not have to be kneaded very long... just leave it in the KitchenAide. The bread comes out fabulous!! I add 3 cups of wheat flour first & then add a little at a time to get the right consistency. Definitely did not need all of the recommended flour. I add a little flaxseed for a heart-healthy touch. :)

Chickpea Salad with Red Onion and Tomato

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2008
Fabulous salad, great taste. I used two cloves of garlic that were a little bigger than normal & it turned out great. Next time I make it I'll let the salad sit in the fridge and marinate for an hour or two to really bring out the flavors! I give this one an A+++!

Swiss Cheese 'n' Onion Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
This recipe was great. I had never made a quiche before & we had 4 hungry guys staying with us. For the pie crust I used a pate brisee which was in my freezer, leftover from something. I didn't have swiss, so I used a fiesta blend cheese instead. I cooked 1 pound of bacon & crumbled it into the eggs. The recipe turned out fantastic! The guys loved it & pretty much ate the whole thing.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies IV

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2008
These turned out pretty good - I'm going to look for a better recipe, but these did the trick, my husband liked them (that's all that matters). I couldn't find unsalted macadamia nuts, so I got the salted ones & rinsed them in cold water - sounds kinda silly, but it worked.

Cornbread Pudding

Fabulous recipe. I keep the ingredients on hand just in case we have unexpected company - my husband grills & I whip this up. I add a 1/4 cup of brown sugar & it comes out great - everyone loves this stuff!!! Thanks for posting the recipe!

Honey-Mustard Grilled Trout

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
We tried this recipe after my husband's morning fishing trip. The flavors were great, however I rated this a 4 because the sauce was a bit too runny. The onions used to cook on were a great side to the meal. Leftover sauce was great on salads!

Hearty Turkey Soup with Parsley Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
This soup turned out great. I already had turkey stock so I skipped to the second part. I only had wheat bread & used that instead of white bread for the dumplings - they turned out GREAT! It was my husband's favorite part. The dumplings do need to cook a bit longer(depending on the size)- I'll plan for that next time. Overall a great recipe.
