About this Cook
I'm a single mother of four little girls, and I'm retraining to be a teacher after being disabled from cooking professionally.
My favorite things to cook
I love to do everything up fusion, so when I make a Paella, I use curry ingredients and couscous and serve it with a drizzle of rice wine vinegar and some egg rolls. I range from Middle Eastern to Asian, but my background is in more traditional American and European foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Thanksgiving we use the leftover pastry to make different little desserts. I let each girl have a portion and then they can stuff it with fruit, roll it up with cinnamon like a pinwheel, or whatever they can think of. Also, every Friday is movie and baking night. I'm learning to bake with my kids, and we collect pans and tools (as well as recipes). Every Friday night we bake something new and watch a movie together with our sleeping bags out in the living room.
My cooking triumphs
Anything Mediterranean or Asian. Although anything that I don't have to bake usually comes out just fine.
My cooking tragedies
Bread and yeast (most of the time). I need to take a class or something. After being a chef for so many years, you'd think I'd have pastry experience, but I don't.

Fluffy Biscuits
As is, this is very bland. Modifying it a bit would make a great start. The half butter and upping the salt to a full tsp would make it much better. Also, I had to add milk to make this a viable dough.

Honey Wheat Bread II
We love it! I doubled the recipe and added an egg to each bowl of dough (I use two when doubling a recipe for convenience). It had a lovely, dense texture without being too thick. I find it crumbs better with the egg included. Made 2 loaves and a pan of dinner rolls plus a braided loaf as well. I did an egg wash on the braid and rolls and sprinkled it with oats. Fantastic for bulk baking. Will try multi-grain with this next time.

Donna's Chocolate Zucchini Bread
The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because we did put a bit more chocolate in it. It was still outstanding. The kids are destroying the whole batch like little vacuums as I type. Great way to get veggies in the kids!
