Best Whole Wheat Chocolate Chippers

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2008
Pretty good for whole wheat. I used the "white" whole wheat flour, aiming for a lighter cookie. Good texture, but you still get a whole wheat after-taste that kids may wrinkle their noses at.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Excellent recipe. I doubled the streusal mix and can't imagine it with any less. Simple, rich and moist.

Balsamic Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
I'm definately in the minority on this one! Based on the reviews I thought something mysterious and magical was going to happen in the oven. But alas, it tasted like balsamic vinegar on potatoes. Not a combo I personally enjoyed.

Family's Creamed Spinach

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
4 star with minor changes: sauted the garlic and onion til soft. Then added flour for a roux. Addition of 1/2 cup heavy cream with the soup, and a pinch of nutmeg. Great flavor and exactly what I was looking for.

Chocolate-Candy Cane Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
After reading reviews I made these changes which resulted in a great cookie. Neighbors raved about them. Reduced cream cheese by half (less spreading "slugs"). As a choc-o-holic, the mild chocolate taste wouldn't do! Replaced 4 squares of chocolate with 3.5 oz. bar of good quality dark (I used Lindt 85%) chocolate. Lastly reduced baking to 8 minutes. The flavor was worthy, and they kept their form. Made some pretzel shapes for shipping (thought the delicate cane shape might break). Next time will do 1/2 with dark chocolate drizzle for the chocolate lovers.

Bacon Cheddar Chive Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
Great flavor. Heavy like a pound cake texture. I made mini muffins, and admit they are addicting, however, next time I'll probably cut out the soup or reduce the oil to make them lighter.

Cheesy Potato and Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
Who'd a thunk gravy mix in a soup?! But it's awesome. Made it ahead and took it on an overnight boat trip and everyone --kids and adults -- LOVED it! A keeper!

Salmon with Tomatoes

This is so out-of-this-world good! You wouldn't think the combo of ingredients would result in something so delicious. Not low fat but hubby says "restaurant quality"! Use Frank's Red Hot Original (thanks for the tip, Cathy) for the right blend of flavor and kick.

Aunt Peg's Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
I had such high hopes for this one...it looked so good. Used good quality Pinot Grigio as someone suggested. The soup was a little sour for my taste, and just didn't have the OOMPH I was aiming for. I agree, it did taste better the next day, but still not something I'd make again.

Spicy Persimmon Chutney

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
Yikes! Waaaaay too much vinegar for my taste!! After simmering and realizing it wasn't going to tame out, I drained the liquid from the chunks, threw it out and added apple juice, the seasonings (again), and 3/4 cup sugar and simmered some more. The fruit is still super pungent. I'm hoping it'll mellow out in the next 48 hrs before Thanksgiving! I'd hate to waste all those persimmons! If you're going to try the recipe, start with 1/2 the cider vinegar and go from there. Also this recipe makes alot.
