Amazing Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
OH MY!! These ribs are truly amazing. I did make a few modifications. First, I never boil ribs because that's just not done where I live in Texas. I found a rub recipe on this site, Mempis Rub, and let the ribs sit overnight with it on them. I then wrapped them in foil and cooked them in the oven real slow mainly 'cause I don't have a grill. I could not find any Porter but did find a Porter/Pilsner blend called "Missippi Mud" and used that. I used a combination of baby backs and regular spare ribs and I'm not exagerating there were only six pieces left. I plan to use this recipe again. Thanks so much for this recipe.

Easy Homemade Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
As written I would rate as 4, however with the changes I made it was a 5. First, I never put beans in my chili, that is almost a sin. I added minced garlic instead of powder and I used a clove of this. I added a tablespoon of chili powder and used a teaspoon of cumin. I used chili-ready tomatoes which have some seasoning included and only an 8 oz can of tomato sauce. I decreased the water to 1 cup rinsing the tomato sauce can and tomato can out with this water. This makes a nice thick bowl of red; add sour cream and shredded cheese to the bowl and you have a wonderful meal. Oh, also make a skillet of cornbread and enjoy.

Skillet Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
I just love these rolls. I did "cheat" when making the dough. I put all the dough ingredients in my bread machine and used the dough cycle, then formed into 16 rolls. Used a cast iron skillet and let rise as directed and baked 20 minutes. These were easy to make and very tasty. I will definitly make again. Thanks so much for this recipe.

Golden Egg Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
This has to be the very best bread I have ever made. It is smooth and very toothsome. I did beat the eggs up into the water before putting into container, used 2# loaf and medium crust. Wonderful bread. I will make this again.

3-Cheese Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
This is an exceptional dish. I usually make recipes the first time exactly the way it is written. However, this was adjusted out of necessity. My grandson said he does not like mushrooms so I used Broccoli Cheese soup. I misread the instructions and used a total of 4 1/3 cups of cheese. I added some mixed veggies and broccoli with cheese sauce to the soup/cheese mix as well some cooked shrimp. I did not bake it but sat it on low fire till it was heated through. I know it was good as that picky 6 year-old ate it well. I will be making again and this time like the recipe reads.

World's Best Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
This is absolutely the worlds best potato soup. I was not sure if my family would eat it as some of them are very picky eaters. My grand daughter ate two bowls of it and as I was putting it away after eating she asked for more! I have enough left for another meal. I definitely will be making it again. I did add 2 cloves of garlic and sauted the onions and celery in butter and did not have half and half so I used 1 cup of whipping cream and 1 cup of milk instead. Very good.

Buttermilk Syrup

Reviewed: May 19, 2012
I have had this saved for some time but never made it before now. I followed the recipe exactly and I must say this is wonderful. It reminds me of pralines and will be excellent on my pancakes tomorrow. I had read that it was better if it sat for overnight so I made it today. I did not taste any bitterness nor is there an aftertaste. Thanks so much for this recipe.

Emma's Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
Wonderful waffels. I did not separate the eggs, just beat until smooth, I also used Splenda instead of sugar. Otherwise followed recipe; I think next time I will follow review which suggested to use 1/4 cup cornstarch for crispness. My daughter-in-law suggested adding some cinnamon sugar next time which I will try. Will let everyone know how that turns out.

Cheese Corn Spoon Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2011
I made a custom version of this recipe. I halfed the recipe because I am single and eat alone. I added chopped green chilies and some browned ground meat to the batter; added the cheese to batter and put cheese on top after it was done. Great meal which only needed a green salad to complete the meal.

Sarah's Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2011
Oh my goodness, this is the best. I made only two changes which was to add the whole bunch of cilantro as I like it. I also omitted the jalapenio as I do not care for them. We ate the whole recipe in one day. Will definintely make again.

Grandma's Doughnuts

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2011
I have made douhnuts like this many years ago and learned from an aunt that you do not need to make "holes" just punch a hole in the center with your thumb and stretch it out to make perfect doughnuts. I had forgotten about this recipe so thanks for bringing it back to me. I will be sure to try them with the flakey biscuts also.

Stewed Squash

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2011
I have cooked squash similar to this all my life. However, I never add that much water to squash. Only a small amount is needed, usually just 1/4-1/2 cup if a lot of squash is being cooked. For this small amount of squash do not add more than 2-3 tablespoons otherwise all you will get is tasteless mush.

Onion Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
I don't normally alter a recipe until I try it as first written, however, I did this time. I had some green onions I needed to use and so I used them instead of regular chopped onion. I also added a handful of chopped walnuts and browned the onion, rice and walnuts in the butter. I then added my broth and simmered until the rice was done. I will make this again but I think I'll use pecans next time.

Totally awesome. I did add a package of taco seasoning to the beans as someone suggested otherwise followed the recipe. My 6-year old grandson could not get enough. Will be making this again.

Wilted Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
This is pretty much the recipe my grandmother used when I was a child. However she did not use eggs in the dressing. This was the only way my dad would eat spinach. By the way, my grandmother was born in 1875 and this was the way her mother made this salad.

Triple Dipped Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
This is the best chicken ever! I have searched and searched for a recipe like this and never found it until now. I used Mississippi Mud Black and Tan Beer as that was what I had on hand. I will use this recipe for all my fried chicken. I may even use the suggestion and make Chicken Fried Steak this way. Will let you know how that turns out.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
Very yummy. I am eating the soup as I write this. I did make a few changes however; I did not have any dill weed so used dill seed instead, had no parsley but did have cilantro so used that. One of the reviews suggested usinf half and half which I did. All in all a wonderful recipe. Thanks so much for it.
