About this Cook
68 y/o, male; Presbyterian Elder; former member of BSA; Past Rotarian President; married 33 years; son/daughter; 3 grandaughters; 2 cats. Love to play organ/pipe organ (42 years) and accordion (63 years).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking Chinese; Thai; Italian, Polish; American; Native American. I enjoy baking; developing new deserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite is stuffed cabbage, NY style creamy cheesecake, lasagna, eggplant parmigian.
My cooking triumphs
Hot and spicy, Thai shrimp stir fry with fresh Basil (have substituted beef, scallops, chicken and pork); Roast duckling.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 14 I attempted to bake a cake like my Mother did, without measuring anything. Hers always came out great. After being in the oven for almost 2 1/2 hours, I admitted that I hade to discard my chocolate "soup" cake. It refused to bake. I measured everything thereafter until I grew older and learned how to "guess-ti-mate". However, baking is a precise technique, whereas cooking can be hit or miss.

Aunt Cora's World's Greatest Cookies
The recipe is easy enough to prepare and the cookies are very good, maybe not the world's greatest, but good. However, the recipe neglects to instruct the baker to make small cookies. If you make scoop #20 or #30, only 4 cookies will fit on a cookie sheet. Also, I had to reduce the cooking time to 11 minutes. The cookies are brown and hard at the edges and they stick to the sheet even if you pre-grease the cookie sheet
