German Chocolate Cake III
About this Cook
I'm a recent college graduate, fairly new to cooking, but loving it. I think the draw is in imagining flavors and pieces of a meal coming together, and challenging myself to create them for myself and others to enjoy. I aspire to some day have a solid set of skills so I can cook and bake without being glued to a recipe.
My favorite things to cook
Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. I love peanut butter and desserts!
My favorite family cooking traditions
The one thing my mom made regularly while I was growing up was apple sauce. It's extra cinammony and chunky--truly perfected. We always enjoyed it warm, and the flavor reminded me of my Grandma's simple, hearty apple pie. I make a mini version of the apple sauce to eat with oatmeal all the time.
My cooking triumphs
I made a meal for about 15 family members on my sister's birthday: Earthy Vegetable Tagine with Lemon Saffron Couscous and "chicken" (the veggie kind.. meat-eaters like it!), and White Bean Crostini appetizers. Everyone raved and raved!

Black Bean and Couscous Salad
Great, easy recipe! Plus, it's naturally pretty for presentation and appeal. My variations: One red, one yellow pepper. One can rinsed black and one can rinsed pinto beans. Whole wheat couscous (definitely still soaks up the delicious flavors). 1/2 - 1 teaspoon Chili Powder for a slight kick! Yumm.

Spinach Chickpea Curry
This delicious curry is surprisingly simple and easy. I used baby spinach and silken tofu, and though the latter crumbled more than desired, it still turned out very tasty. A great veggie recipe that will become a regular.

German Chocolate Cake III
My first time baking a German Chocolate and it turned out wonderfully. Wasn't the easiest cake, but certainly worth the time. A classic frosting absorbed nicely in and complemented this well. A huge it among all. Absolutely addictive and delicious!
